We have over 500 animals in our care at any given time, including Donkeys, Pigs, Chickens, Rabbits, Geese, Goats, Dogs & Cats. Woodrock Animal Rescue was founded in 1992 by Nicholas and Estelle (Stella) Meldau, whose focus, passion and drive afforded their animal rescue vision to become a reality. The rescue centre originated in the suburban area of Woodmead and Khyber Rock, hence the name Woodroc

k. Today Woodrock Animal Rescue is one of the oldest independent domestic animal rescue centres in South Africa. We are a registered non-profit, pro-life, rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing shelter, based on 8.5 hectares in the beautiful Hennops River Valley, 25 minutes from Fourways Johannesburg on the R511 Hartbeespoort Road. We offer support to unfortunate animals that are homeless, abused, neglected, stray, injured, ill, geriatric, or unwanted—those who would otherwise face miserable lives and untimely deaths. Why has no one chosen Benjie yet?

This sweet, playful boy has been waiting far longer than he should have to. He is loving, gentle, full of personality, and still gets excited every time someone gives him attention, like maybe this could finally be his person.

Benjie does not belong growing old in a shelter. He belongs in a home, loved, safe, and part of a family.

Every adoption decision is made with the animal’s best interest at heart. We look at their needs, their personality, their safety, and the kind of home where they will truly thrive.

Why has No One Chosen Bella, George, Clooney or Pax?

We are scratching our heads - confused while these four just keep waiting, staring at the fence, longing to be held, dreaming of giving comfort and company to someone who is willing to love them.

Bella is a sweet, loving little chunky girl with so much love to give.
George is a curious boy who always wants to be close to you.
Clooney, with his unusual eyes, is happiest when he’s near his people.
And Pax? Such a playful little girl just waiting for her forever home.

Different stories, different personalities, but all hoping for the same thing: A family of their own.
