Please keep Sijo in your thoughts โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Sijo escaped from his property and was sadly hit by a car before being brought to our clinic.

On examination, we found that his leg was very badly broken. Our team immediately stepped in to provide him with the care and treatment he needed. Thanks to the skill of Dr Brian, Sijo underwent surgery where a plate and pins were inserted to stabilise the fractured bones and give him the best chance at a full recovery.

Sijo will be staying at our clinic for the next few weeks while he recovers under strict cage rest and close monitoring. During this time, our dedicated programmes manager, Mneno, will visit his home to assess the property and ensure that the fencing is secure and safe before Sijo returns home.

Sadly, cases like Sijo's are all too common. Many dogs escape through damaged or inadequate fencing and end up injured, lost, or worse.

We are urgently in need of fencing materials and fencing poles to help make homes safer and more secure for pets in our community. If you are able to donate any fencing materials, please contact Bianca on WhatsApp at 081 018 1995 and we will gladly arrange collection.

Thank you for helping us keep pets safe and families together.

โค๏ธ Please keep Sijo in your thoughts and prayers as he continues his recovery journey. ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿš Bringing Veterinary Care to the Community ๐Ÿš๐Ÿพ

Every Tuesday to Thursday, our Mobile Clinics travel throughout Khayelitsha, bringing essential primary healthcare services directly to pets and their owners.

Many pet owners in our community do not have access to transport to visit our main clinic for routine treatments such as vaccinations, deworming, and tick and flea prevention. Our Mobile Clinic helps bridge that gap by taking these vital services straight to the animals who need them most.

The day begins with Mneno driving through the area, announcing our arrival and location over the loudspeaker. Before long, pet owners begin gathering with their beloved companions, ready to ensure they receive the care they deserve.

One of the highlights of these outreach days is witnessing the incredible love and dedication people have for their pets. While not everyone has access to proper collars, leashes, or pet carriers, owners always find creative ways to bring their animals to us. In these photos, you'll spot one particularly stylish dog sporting a curtain tie-back as both a collar and leash!

These clinics are busy and often hectic, but our dedicated team tackles each day with enthusiasm, knowing that every vaccination, deworming treatment, and health check helps protect animals from disease and improves their quality of life.

Most importantly, we are proud to offer this service completely free of charge, ensuring that financial constraints never stand in the way of a pet receiving basic veterinary care.

All thanks to the support of Welttierschutzgesellschaft - WTG e.V. for sponsoring our mobile clinics. It is because of them that we can offer this service free of charge to the community and helps us bring veterinary care where it is needed most. โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ A huge thank you to James Smart from The Barking Ark for kindly offering to teach our kennel hands about training our shelter dogs.

This valuable skill will help improve the adoptability of our dogs and make the transition into their future homes far more seamless and less stressful. By better understanding dog behaviour and training techniques, our team will be able to give each dog the best possible chance at a successful adoption.

Our kennel hands all agreed that the first lesson was incredibly informative and filled with practical knowledge that they can continue using every day going forward.

We are deeply grateful to James for sharing his time, patience and expertise with our team and our dogs. ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

Little 4-week-old Gipsie stole the hearts of everyone at Mdzananda Animal Clinic the moment he arrived. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Unfortunately, Gipsie had a little accident when his tiny human sibling accidentally stepped on him, resulting in a broken leg. Our veterinary team carefully bandaged his leg to stabilise the fracture and help it heal properly, and he stayed with us for a week of cage rest and monitoring.

However, Gipsie had other ideas! This tiny patient wasn't a fan of being confined to his cage and quickly made his feelings known. To keep him happy and comfortable, our staff took turns carrying him around while they worked, often with him snuggled up against them. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Between bottle feeds and plenty of cuddles, Gipsie became the clinic's most pampered patient. In fact, he would only fall asleep when someone was holding him!

We're happy to share that Gipsie went home on Monday to continue his recovery with his family. We look forward to seeing him again soon for his follow-up appointment and can't wait to watch him continue his healing journey. ๐Ÿ’•
