Redemption Dogs Rescue and Rehab is a dedicated non-profit animal welfare o

rganisation focused on rescuing and rehabilitating dogs across the Western Cape and beyond. Guided by a pro-life philosophy, we provide each dog with the highest standards of care, addressing both their physical and psychological needs. Beyond our rescue efforts, we engage in community outreach to educate and support pet owners, fostering a compassionate community committed to the humane treatment and holistic welfare of all animals. We believe that the emotional scars inflicted on dogs are as devastating as the physical, and that every dog—regardless of breed or past trauma—deserves a shot at redemption! Through our comprehensive approach to rescue, rehabilitation, and education, we strive to create a world where every dog is valued, cared for, and given the opportunity to lead a joyful life. Vision Statement:
At Redemption Dogs Rescue and Rehab, we envision a future where communities are united in their commitment to the humane treatment and holistic welfare of all animals, fostering empathy, understanding and kindness in every interaction. Mission Statement:
Redemption Dogs Rescue and Rehab is dedicated to transforming lives—both canine and human. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, addressing not only their physical needs but also their emotional and psychological scars. Our mission extends beyond rescue. Through comprehensive behavioural rehabilitation, we address the deep-seated traumas that affect not only the dogs but also the community. Emotional scars in dogs can manifest as behavioural issues, leading to abandonment or abuse, perpetuating a cycle of suffering and neglect. By healing these dogs, we aim to break this cycle and create a ripple effect of compassion and understanding. We believe that educating the youth and broader community about the emotionality and sentience of dogs fosters a more empathetic and caring society. By teaching the importance of addressing dogs' emotional needs alongside their physical ones, we cultivate a culture of respect and kindness that extends to human relationships as well. This holistic approach enhances the welfare of dogs and nurtures a community where people treat each other with greater compassion and respect.

My name is Muse.

My owner passed away unexpectedly, and at 12 years old, I suddenly lost my home, my dad, and everything familiar to me.

I’m a senior dog, but I still have some mileage left in me, if you know what I mean!

I’m active, playful, social, and very much enjoy being around people. I’ve also lived with other dogs and cats before!

I’m healthy and easy to have around.

But I know the reality is that black senior dogs don’t stand much chance of being chosen.

I had a home my whole life. I was deeply loved. I am not going to understand suddenly growing old alone in a kennel.

I need a home willing to take a chance on an old dog who suddenly lost everything.

I am Muse.
And I want to go home.

Bonzo knows what it’s like to be let down and have your heart broken beyond repair. Yet his hopeful tail keeps wagging whenever someone passes by his kennel.

All he wants more than anything in this world, is a family to call his own; forever.

Will you be the one to finally mend his heart and get him out of kennels just in time for winter?

My name is Bastet.

I had a home once. I remember it, and I’d love to have one again.

I’m young and very affectionate once I feel safe with you.
I love to chitchat with you, lean into you, and curl up close for a cuddle.

I’m curious and like to explore, so a home that allows me to embrace my adventurous side whilst ensuring I stick to my curfew would be a dream!
I live easily with other cats, even if I may be a little skittish at first.

I’m not a difficult cat. I just haven’t figured out where I belong anymore.

If you’re looking for a cat who will quietly become part of your space, I’ll fit in easily.

If you’re seeing this and it feels like it might be you, please don’t scroll past me.

Jack & Casper

Our owner passed away, and we need a home.

I’m Jack, 9.
Casper’s my little brother, 8.

We’re the kind of dogs people usually look for.
Good with people, gentle with kids, easy with other dogs.

We’ve grown up in a home, so we already know how to just fit into one.

Casper needs a bit of ongoing care after having ehrlichia, but he’s otherwise a happy, normal dog.

The only real ask is that we stay together.

At our age, and needing a home for two, we know it’s a bigger ask. But if someone is out there who has the space, we’d settle in easily.

If you’re seeing this and it feels like it might be you, please don’t scroll past us.

Jack and Casper are currently in foster care. Redemption Dogs is assisting with their adoption process on behalf of their current carer. Applications may be submitted through our website.

Officer Gracie. 🚔

This little miss was rescued whilst hiding out in the engine of a SAPS patrol vehicle - and not a second too soon!

She is being treated, vaccinated and sterilised by Redemption Dogs and then will officially resume her role as Station Commander, under the care of the officer who discovered her hiding place.

We salute you, Officer Gracie. 🫡 🐾

To help us facilitate more rescues such as this one, please consider making a donation. Every little bit helps!

For those who may have just landed on our page and don’t know much about what we’re about, this photograph, to me, captures the heart of what we do.

🐕 25 - Number of intakes into our shelter
🐈‍⬛ 20 - Number of successful rehomes
🦮 45 - Number of animals sterilised and vaccinated

These numbers may not look all that impressive, but when you consider that we’re a team of only two women working solely on a volunteer basis, with nothing but grit and determination to pull us through, we believe the trajectory shows a positive inflection for what the future holds.

We’ve been investing heavily into the surrounding community, forming relationships and partnerships, and ensuring animals are cared for and fed.

Perhaps most critically of all, we’ve been investing time into the children of the community, educating them on the proper treatment of animals and their sentience. This is the aspect we’re most excited about and one we believe will show its impact in future generations.

We’ve already seen the difference these small gestures make when children approach us with wide grins, proudly telling us how healthy and shiny their dog’s coat looks, or how quickly they report an injustice to an animal in their community.

Sometimes our work has taken us into precarious situations. “Dangerous dogs”, sure. Unsavoury people, plenty.
But many of the animals we’ve managed to rescue have been thanks to these very children and their wide open hearts.
Humans aren’t born cruel.
Life hardens us.

And the same can be said for dogs.

We’ve had two major behavioural rehabilitation success stories: Nina and King. Helping dogs that no one else is willing to give a chance is the very core of our organisation and something we hope, with stability and sustainability, to expand on in future.

The purpose of this post is not to reflect on the challenges of animal welfare, but on the successes we sometimes overlook while chasing a seemingly ever-elusive goal.

For at least these animals, we’ve changed their entire lives. And we’ve only been able to do that because of you.

This coming year, we hope to cement the foundation we’ve been building into something solid and lasting. Our hope is to build our donor and support base brick by brick, so that we can not only sustain but eventually expand operations.

Your support is endlessly appreciated, and our gratitude can never be adequately expressed in words. Thank you for entrusting us to make a difference for the animals and their people, on your behalf. 🤍🙏🏼

Little man Sergio is still waiting on someone to see him.

He’s now sterilised, healthy, vaccinated and ready to begin his new adventure with hopefully a family to love him by his side!

He’s already been let down by the people he thought would love him forever. Please don’t let him grow up in the system. 🙏🏼
