An animal welfare organisation aimed at collaborating and partnering with other animal organisations to assist with the funding of sterilisations, emergency medical treatments and improving the living conditions of underprivileged animals. The overpopulation of domestic animals and the subsequent cycles of abuse, neglect and suffering is an almost insurmountable problem so we live by the credo of
"One Dog / Cat At A Time" so that the sheer scale of the problem is not too daunting. We take up arms in the form of food, tick, flea and mange treatments and outsourced veterinary care to slowly but surely chip away at the problem in order to reduce the flood to a trickle. It takes persistence, perseverance and dogged determination and we have all three! And of course, it requires FUNDING too. We are responsible and realistic in our approach. We believe in building up the trust and appreciation of the people whose animals we assist. We do not offer money in exchange for any animals as this perpetuates trade and we don't seize animals illegally as this would be damaging to our reputation and would jeopardize the potential help we can render to animals in the long-term. Any animal taken in for treatment for serious injury or illness will be sterilised before being returned to their owners. Consent will be obtained. In cases where consent is not given, we will invoke the assistance of the SPCA or AACL. We use our funding responsibly and always obtain the advice of experienced welfare vets before funding operations / treatments to determine the prognosis for recovery and quality of life. Our primary focus is to SPAY AND NEUTER - the fewer animals that are born, the fewer there will be that succumb to injuries, illness, hunger, suffering, abuse and neglect. However, we are also determined to alleviate the suffering of sick and injured animals who have no access to veterinary services, ideally through prevention (vaccination and tick and flea and mange treatments). We will always attempt to get litters of puppies and kittens surrendered so as to avoid them going on to breed exponentially in environments which are unable to provide for their basic needs. We will go to the ends of the earth to ensure that the mother's are sterilised so that the "brak stops here". All cats and kittens that are rescued and go up for adoption are tested for Feline AIDS and Leukaemia. The Animal Army adheres to strict re-homing and adoption procedures involving home-checks and enforced sterilisation and identification of all our rescues. It is for this reason that we keep re-homing to a minimum as doing it properly and by the book is time-consuming and being a small organisation, we need all our resources in the field - sterilising, educating and providing primary care. We always try to get to the root of a problem and we're like a dog with a bone when it comes to rectifying unacceptable situations (such as chained dogs or animals living in inhumane conditions). Where our powers of persuasion fail, we call on upon The Cape of Good Hope SPCA and The Animal Anti-Cruelty League to assist us. We rely solely on donations to further our aim. We'll fight this war on the frontlines, but we need your financial support in the wings!
