🦂 One of the world’s most expensive liquids isn’t gold, oil, or perfume—it’s scorpion venom.

Scorpion venom is produced in extremely tiny quantities, and collecting it is difficult and labor-intensive. Because only small amounts can be extracted from an individual scorpion, the venom can have an extraordinarily high estimated value when its price is extrapolated to a gallon.

A commonly cited figure is about $39 million per gallon. However, this does not mean someone routinely buys a gallon of scorpion venom for $39 million. The figure is an estimate based on the value of very small quantities and the enormous amount of venom production and collection that would be required to obtain a gallon.

Why is it so valuable? Scorpion venom contains numerous specialized molecules that scientists study for potential applications in medicine, neuroscience, cancer research, pain research, and drug development.

So the real surprise isn't simply the price—it’s how incredibly difficult it is to collect enough venom to reach such a volume.

Nature can make even a single drop astonishingly valuable. 🦂🔬
