LEAPS is always trying to ensure that all outdoor animals in the townships have shelter. Over the years, we have built shelters from materials we have been able to find or put together, or that have been donated.
Hope Distillery just donated several large barrels to us which Rika modified to ensure they are secure, accessible and warm. We are SO excited to be able to bring relief to animals who are facing a very cold winter and so very grateful to Hope Distillery for their support and thoughtfulness.
We want you all to know how much we appreciate your support, love, care, donations and concern for these wonderful sentient beings that we have the privilege of saving, protecting and advocating for.
(P.S. The dog on the wall in the image below was the neighbour's dog who needed to inspect to ensure we were setting them up correctly).

๐Ÿšจ A HEARTFELT PLEA FROM LEAPS ๐Ÿšจ
To every single person who has already donated towards our new LEAPS Bakkie โ€“ thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ
As many of you know, we desperately needed a reliable vehicle to continue our rescue work across the West Coast. Thanks to your support, we were able to secure the bakkie, but only by emptying our bank account and taking out a loan.
Today, we are still carrying debt for the bakkie, outstanding veterinary accounts, and the ongoing costs of fuel, sterilisation campaigns, emergency rescues, and transporting animals hundreds of kilometres to safety and veterinary care.
With over 23 thousand Facebook followers and 2615 Instagram followers following, we have one humble request:
๐Ÿ™ If every follower donated just R100, we could: โœ… Pay off the bakkie loan in full
โœ… Settle our outstanding vet accounts
โœ… Continue our 10/10/10 Sterilisation Campaign
โœ… Cover fuel costs for emergency rescues and transport
โœ… Ensure that no animal in need is ever turned away because of a lack of funds
We know times are tough, and we never ask lightly. But we are pleading for your help. We love what we do, and we want to keep saving lives without the constant fear of whether we can afford the next emergency.
Every day we respond to animals that have nobody else. Every day we witness suffering, neglect, injury and abandonment. We simply cannot turn a blind eye when an animal needs help.
๐Ÿ’™ Just R100 can make a difference. ๐Ÿ’™ Just R100 can help save lives. ๐Ÿ’™ Just R100 from each follower could change everything.
And we promise, once we have cleared this debt and caught up on our essential expenses, we'll get back to doing what we do best โ€“ rescuing, rehabilitating, sterilising and saving animals.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. PLEASE SHARE IF YOU CAN'T.

What an interesting read ๐Ÿฅฐ

One month ago on 3 May we celebrated , but did you know that South Africa is home to more than one โ€˜kindโ€™ of leopard? ๐Ÿ†
On this weโ€™re shining the spotlight on a fascinating variety of โ€˜leopardsโ€™ โ€“ from plants and trees to fish and insects โ€“ all named for their spotted resemblance to the iconic big cat.
These markings arenโ€™t just for show โ€“ they serve an important purpose:
๐ŸŒฟ Camouflage
In many environments, dappled light creates patches of shadow. Spots help animals blend in โ€“ like the Leopard Catshark on the ocean floor or the Leopard Toad and Leopard Tortoise among vegetation.
โš ๏ธ Warning & deception
Some spots do the opposite โ€“ standing out to warn predators or mimic danger. In species like the Leopard Magpie Moth and Common Leopard Butterfly, they can confuse, deceive, or deter.
๐Ÿ’˜ Communication
Patterns can also help animals recognise each other or attract mates โ€“ like in the Leopard Sharpnose Puffer.
๐ŸŒฑ And what about plants?
In species like the Leopard Lily, Leopard Orchid, and Leopard Plant, spots come from pigment patterns during growth. They can help manage sunlight, deter herbivores, or attract pollinators. In the Leopard Tree, the โ€œspotsโ€ come from peeling bark.
โœจ Different species, different environments, same solution: a spot-tacular adaptation to survive and thrive!
This reminds us that conservation is about protecting the entire web of life โ€“ not just one iconic species ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ‘‡ Which โ€œleopardโ€ is your favourite?

We have just two weeks to find loving homes for these beautiful cats in Graafwater.
We can organise transport to anywhere in the Western Cape ๐Ÿฅฐ
These precious kitties are much-loved, healthy, and all have been sterilised. They were originally rescued before and have been given a second chance at life. Now they need that chance again.
Please consider opening our heart and home by fostering or adopting, or simply sharing this post to help us reach the right people. Every share could make a difference and help secure a brighter future for these deserving cats.
Thank you for caring. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Update !!!!! We got a call just before midnight from the vets to tell us Max did not make it ..His little body gave up.. RIP Max๐Ÿ’” we are also heartbroken for Max's family our thoughts are with you all ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿพโค๏ธ A Life Saved Through Teamwork โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Early this morning, we received a call from the Clanwilliam Veterinary Clinic asking if one of our dogs could urgently donate blood for a brave boy named Max.๐Ÿฅฐ
Max had swallowed a large number of bottle tops and required emergency, life-saving surgery. To safely perform the operation, the veterinary team needed a suitable blood donor for a transfusion.
At LEAPS๐Ÿ˜, rescue comes in many forms, and when help is needed, we do our best to answer the call.
Without hesitation, Rika and Kim loaded the NEW LEAPS bakkie and headed off with our handsome boy, BVLGARI, who met all the requirements to be a blood donor. He was the perfect candidate, with the right age, vaccination status, health condition, and temperament to help save another dog's life.
We are incredibly proud of BVLGARI for being a real-life hero today. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿถโค๏ธ
A huge thank you to Rika and Kim for acting so quickly, and to the veterinary team for their dedication and care.
Today reminds us that rescue isn't only about giving animals a second chanceโ€”it's also about animals helping animals.
Please keep Max in your thoughts as he recovers from his surgery. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Help us get there. It's because of YOUR support that we made it this far. We are truly sooooo close!!!
