🐾 Southern Suburbs Canicross 🐾
☀️ *Saturday Morning Social Run* 🌿🐕🏃‍♂️

Kick off your Saturday with fresh air, wagging tails, and a relaxed run that welcomes everyone - whether you’re jogging, running, or walking with your dog.

📅 *Date:* Saturday
⏰ *Time:* 08:00
📍 *Meeting Point:* Blackhill, Jonkersdam Parking Lot, Glencairn

🗺️ Route Information
We’ll be offering *3 km and 5 km routes* across flat terrain with a bit of a hill, mostly sand with a touch of gravel. Perfect for all fitness levels, from beginners to seasoned runners.

All dogs over 12 months are welcome, and walkers are encouraged to join in too.

🌦️ Weather
Morning, winter conditions are usually ideal for Canicross; cool, fresh, and energizing. We will provide water and spare p**p bags, but it's always a good idea to bring water for yourself and your dog, and a travel bowl for the car.

💳 Run Fee
Annual club members run free as part of their membership. Non‑members: R50 per run, payable before we start.

⚠️ Important Reminders
* Arrive 10–15 minutes early for a short briefing.
* Reactive dogs should be given extra space.
* Call out clearly when overtaking: “passing left” or “passing right”.
* Keep at least two leash lengths between teams.
* Warm up before the run and cool down afterwards.
* Do NOT feed your dog for at least an hour before running.
* Bring p**p bags and clean up after your dog.

💡 Top Tip
Arrive with your dog in a normal collar or harness, then switch into your Canicross gear at the venue. Remove it after the run to help your dog distinguish between “work time” and “social time.”

🐾 Social Run Reminder
This is a *social run, not a race*. Enjoy the company, the grass underfoot, and the chance to strengthen your bond with your dog in a fun, supportive environment.

Ben Robinson has a 5K personal best of 14:59. Not bad at all. Sub-15 puts him in the upper end of club running.

His 5K best with his dog Zuma is 11:56.

That is not a typo. 11 minutes, 56 seconds. Faster than the men's 5000m world record, by a lot, and one of the fastest canicross performances ever recorded.

Canicross is exactly what it sounds like. A runner and a dog, connected by a bungee line and a harness, with the dog pulling on trail terrain. It is a proper sport, with world championships, national teams and world records of its own.

Robinson is a multiple world champion. Zuma is a Greyster, a purpose-bred cross for dog sports. Together they have redrawn what human-and-hound can do over 5 kilometres.

The previous 5K best was 12:24, set by Robinson and his older dog Blake in 2017.
