If you follow the news, you may have seen some of our team members featured in recent publications.
In an inspiring story that unfolded recently, our clinic assisted Friend of the Rottweiler Rescue & Re-home South Africa with a group of dogs uplifted from a farm in the North West Province.
The animals were rescued following a major drug bust carried out by the authorities.
What stood out to many in this story was the immediate response from the SAPS, HAWKS And NPA. Rather than leaving the animals behind, authorities quickly sounded the alarm and sought help for the dogs who no longer had caregivers after the arrests.
It has been an interesting period for our clinic. Rottweiler Rescue arrived with a mixed group of dogs โ including some they affectionately refer to as โSnack Russellsโ โ reminding everyone that no animal should be left behind, regardless of breed or background.
We were initially concerned that the dogs might have been affected by airborne by-products from drug production on the property. However, thanks to thorough toxic screening and radiographs conducted by Dr Ross in the first few days, we were relieved to find that the dogs had not been impacted.
Dr Bull performed much needed sterilizations which proved that multiple litters had been born. The adult offspring showed that the dogs had been docked - an outdated, cruel and illegal practice.
Sadly, years of irresponsible breeding had taken a heavy toll. Several dogs suffered from severe genetic faults, including advanced hip and elbow dysplasia, and had to be humanely euthanised to end their suffering.
We hope those involved find some solace in the difficult but compassionate decisions that were made.
For the remaining dogs, it has been incredibly heartwarming to witness the happy reactions as animals rescued at different stages were brought back together. You could often hear our staff excitedly calling out โfamily reunion!โ throughout the day.
Many team members could be found after their shifts spending time in the garden playing with the โpack,โ much to everyoneโs delight.
We have removed countless ticks, treated them for parasites, performed radiographs, sterilisations, dentals and growth removals.
While the media spotlight has rightly focused on the upcoming court case โ expected to feature record-breaking numbers and highlight the heroic work of the state agencies involved โ our experience over the past few weeks has centered on the dogs themselves.
Our clinic has been filled with brave, resilient animals whose love for one another and unwavering spirit have reminded us all of what truly matters.
Our clinic was alive with the exact warmth and purpose and in the shade Sr Nadia always dreams in.
We congratulate all those involved in tireless efforts and compassion. We also wish the investigators and prosecutors every success as they work to uphold just.
Yesterday we received payment from SAINTs Animal Charity which has gone along way in paying towards all the rescue cases for the last month. Thank you for the hard work every month.
As the dogs now leave our care we pray for smooth adoptions, continued kindness, and a wonderful new life.
