Another Successful Prosecution for the Bloemfontein SPCA 🐾💔

Last year in October, the Bloemfontein SPCA Inspectorate team responded to a heartbreaking case involving a dog that had been left to suffer on a chain.

The dog was found dead, severely emaciated and still attached to a chain. A veterinary examination was conducted, and it was determined that the dog had died from starvation. 💔

After a lengthy process, 26-year-old Kgosi Sefohlelo was found guilty in the Batho Location Court for contravening the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.

He was sentenced to 3 months' direct imprisonment, wholly suspended for 3 years, on condition that he is not convicted of contravening section 2(1)(a) and (c) of the Animals Protection Act during the suspension period.

This case is a painful reminder that animals depend entirely on us for food, water, shelter, veterinary care and protection from suffering. Leaving an animal to starve to death is not neglect that can simply be ignored — it is cruelty, and it can have serious legal consequences.

The Bloemfontein SPCA Inspectorate will continue to investigate animal cruelty, hold offenders accountable and fight for those who have no voice. 🐾

🚨 60,450 FOLLOWERS. ONE SPCA. THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS DEPENDING ON US. 🐾

Today, we are asking our Facebook community for something very simple: Please help us keep the Bloemfontein SPCA’s doors open.

Our running costs are extremely high. Every month, we need to find the funds to cover salaries, water, electricity, fuel, veterinary bills, medication, food, maintenance and the many other costs involved in keeping an SPCA running.

We serve the public every day. We respond to animals in need, investigate cruelty and provide shelter, treatment and a second chance to animals who have nowhere else to go. But we can only continue doing this if we have the funds to do it.
