Today we honor the Big cats!

When we hear the word Leopard we tend to think about a image of a lazy Leopard laying in a tree in the Kruger National park.

But did you know there are 9 recognized subspecies of leopards and possibly 2 more (based on analysis of skulls). And this does not include the elusive snow leopard which is seen as a totally diffrent species of wild cat.

The African leopard's cousin- the Amur leopard lives in northeastern China & Russian Far East. This sub species of leopard is in dire straits. There are estimated to be only 70 left in the wild.
Poaching for their beautifully spotted fur & deforestation is putting these magnificent animals on the critically endangered list.

Today is worlds Tuna Day.
We celebrate this day to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable fishing practices.

Overfishing is a serious problem in the world.
The Blue fin tuna has landed itself on the WWO's endangered species list due to overfishing & illegal fishing.

In 2019 a new Auction record for a Bluefin tuna was set. The fish in question was sold for a staggering $3.1million.

Population declines have been largely driven by the demand for Tuna in high end sushi markets.
