What is a personal protection dog?
First and foremost it is a dog that is extremely obedient and non-aggressive towards humans. Why do I say this?
An obedient dog that listens well to its handler can be redirected to multiple attackers, it can be taught to recognize weapons and direct its bite and hold, directing its bite towards the arm of the hand that has the weapon in it.
A very aggressive dog will get what I call auditory hearing or selective hearing, and will be so focused on the one attacker that you would not be able to redirect the dog to the second or multiple attackers.
The dogs job is not to kill, but to bite and hold with such force that it will immobilize the threat, giving you time to get yourself and family to safety, or call the police, and if need be call the dog off the bite and back to you again for protection again, or what ever action you deem to be correct at that time.
Also remember, if you dog is aggressive towards people, and you do get injured in a way that you require medical attention, how would police, and paramedics get to you?
Would your dog be of any use to you should you have to lock him up every time new friends arrive at your house or if you are having a party, when you are most at risk of an outside attack?
Remember your dog should be one of your final lines of defense, so ensure you property is protected in the best possible means.
Remember, he or she is still your pet, and a valued member of your family, so don't put all the responsibility on your dog for you and your family's safety.
