A comfortable stay starts with knowing how your pet is doing when they arrive. At BKC Pet, every arriving pet receives a basic, non-clinical wellbeing check, with their weight and general condition assessed and recorded.

This provides a clear starting point so our team can monitor changes throughout the stay. A kennel supervisor also carries out a daily visual wellbeing check during hands-on, one-on-one playtime.

Is Your Dog Actually Enjoying That Play Session

Not all play is happy play — and the difference is easier to spot than most people think. 🐾 Comfortable dogs look loose and wobbly, bounce rather than charge, and take natural pauses on their own.

The best sign of all? After a pause, they choose to go back for more.

Signs to watch for instead: stiff bodies, one dog constantly trying to leave, freezing, tucked tails, or hiding behind your legs. That is a dog asking for space, and forcing the interaction usually makes things worse, not better.

Our simple rule at BKC Pet: short breaks, often. Call both dogs away every few minutes, offer water, then let them decide whether to re-engage.

Leaving your pet for a few days is a big decision, so it helps to know what to look for. 🐾 Clean sleeping areas, safe exercise space, fresh water at all times, individual care and a clear feeding routine are the basics any good facility should be able to show you.

Here's how it works at BKC Pet: we believe no pet should live in a kennel. Our fully tiled kennels are used only for sleeping and eating, which lets us monitor exactly how much each pet is eating.

Every pet gets its own grassy play camp with a splash pool, shade and constant access to water. Kennels are never shared between families, and our cats have their own separate, quiet and secure cattery.

That's the principle behind boarding at BKC Pet 🐾 Our fully tiled kennels are used only for sleeping and eating, which means we can keep a close eye on how much each pet is eating. The rest of the day belongs to them: their own grassy outdoor camp with splash pools, shade and water always available.

Kennels are never shared between pets from different families, and our cats have a separate quiet, secure cattery. Boarding, grooming, on-site vet rooms and doggy day camps, all in Johannesburg and kept affordable.

Happy World Animal Day! 🐾 Today we're sharing the belief that shapes everything we do at BKC Pet: no pet should spend its whole stay shut in a kennel.

Our tiled kennels are for sleeping and eating only, so we can keep an eye on every pet's food intake. Beyond that, each dog gets its own grassy play camp with a splash pool, shade and water on tap, and kennels are never shared between families.

Cats have their own quiet, secure cattery away from the dogs, and we've got grooming, on-site vet rooms and doggy day camps too. Compassion, proper exercise and individual care have been the standard here since 1969.

Five Easy Ways to Enrich Your Cat's Day Indoors

Indoor cats thrive on choice — somewhere to hide, somewhere to climb and something new to investigate. 🐾 Start with hiding places: an open box or covered bed in a quiet corner gives your cat a safe retreat.

Then add vertical space — a shelf, cat tree or cleared windowsill lets them watch the world from above, which most cats love. Rotate toys weekly instead of leaving them all out, and keep play sessions short and frequent rather than one long stretch.

Finally, keep the litter area clean, quiet and well away from food bowls and busy walkways. None of it needs to be expensive — most of it is just rearranging what you already have.
