Things to do if you have an aggressive dog who needs to go to a groomer.
1. DONT be upset with your groomer because of your dogs behavior. When a groomer turns your dog away it has nothing to do with their skill level and everything to do with safety.
2. Hire a trainer! Your dog is a pet and should be able to go to the vet, say hello to strangers, and go to the groomers with no aggression. This is a normal part of a pets life and your pet should be able to communicate their feelings g appropriately. Biting is unacceptable.
3. Take frequent visits to the groomers just to say hi and get pets and treats. This will help build a positive relationship between the space and groomer and your dog.
4. Make sure your dog is socialized. Sit in a park and treat good behavior. Go to Home Depot’s and have strangers give your dog treats.
5. Always warn your groomer of possible biting hazard. A bite could end their career, cause PTSD and may result in your dog being handed over to authorities.
6. Understand that your dogs behavior is NOT normal and the price of your groom will reflect the extra work and risk involved.
7. There will most likely be unfinished grooming tasks. Understand that your dog has to build up to a completely finished groom and you will still be paying for their time.

Work with your dog, set them up for success and keep realistic expectations.

Meet Hailo, one of the most behaved Persians I have ever groomed. He got a bit matted underneath and needed to be clipped down on some areas. Such a sweet and kind soul he is way more comfortable now.

*Heat Alert*
Durban Braces for Scorching Temperatures☀️

The public is urged to take precautionary measures as Durban experiences extremely high temperatures reaching above 30°C today.

Residents are reminded to remain hydrated and to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. The heat can lead to dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke.

*Pet owners are advised to ensure that animals are kept in shaded areas with a constant supply of fresh, cool water. Do not leave pets or children unattended in vehicles under any circumstances*

Motorists are further cautioned against leaving their vehicles parked in direct sunlight for long periods, as interior temperatures can rise rapidly, posing health and safety risks.

*The public is encouraged to look out for one another, especially the elderly, children, and vulnerable individuals who may be more susceptible to heat related illnesses*

*Stay cool, stay safe, and stay hydrated*

I’ve posted this before and will post it again and again as it is such important information.

The severity of mats. Mats are more than just a tangle in your dogs coat. A lot of people are unaware just how detrimental a mat is. Here is some knowledge on mats that will be quite the eye opener.
1. Mats pull on the skin.
2. They harbor bacteria, dead skin, debri and can smell.
3. They can create sores and wounds underneath.
4. Mats in the paw pads or armpits can change your dogs gait.
5. They are painful just existing.
6. Creates bad blood circulation and can cause the blood to rush back to that area when removed. Hematomas. Bruising. Swelling.

Removing mats:
1. Removing mats by brushing them out takes ALOT of time. And therefore costs more money. It also is absolutely not comfortable to go through.
2. Brushing them out still damages that hair and damaged hair mats more easily.
3. Cutting them out can be dangerous especially if done by a non professional and will leave holes in the coat.
4. Clipping them out is still a lot of time, stressful and painful as the mats are pulled and tugged. It takes a very close (short) cut to get underneath mats to get them out. About 1/4 inch of coat will be left or bald spots.
5. When your dog needs the groomer to remove mats they are not set up for success. It is far more difficult to remain calm, comfortable and cooperative.
