🏡🐾 WELCOME BACK HOME, SCARLETT! 🐾🏡

After a few worrying days, Scarlett is finally SAFE AND HOME! ❤️

Scarlett’s family had recently moved into the area, so she was only being allowed outside under supervision while she settled in. Unfortunately, on Monday, while contractors were at the property, Scarlett saw her opportunity and slipped past them.

Her family contacted us, and K9 Arlo quickly got to work. 🐕‍🦺🔍

Arlo picked up Scarlett’s scent and tracked it over the neighbour’s wall. The neighbour was adamant that Scarlett had gone over their wall and into the neighbouring complex, so we checked the complex thoroughly.

But Arlo said NOPE! ❌

While searching the surrounding properties, Arlo repeatedly indicated back over the wall and towards the next house. Unfortunately, the homeowner wasn't home, so we couldn't gain access to check the property.

At that point, I was convinced Scarlett was moving between those two properties. Sometimes, the K9's indications tell us a very different story from what we expect — and this is exactly why following the scent trail is so important.

We advised Scarlett's mom on what to do overnight, and she followed our advice to the tee.

And this morning… Scarlett made her way home! 🥹❤️🐾

A huge well done to Scarlett’s mom for following the plan and, of course, to our amazing K9 Arlo for doing what he does best. 🐕‍🦺❤️

🐾🏡 WELCOME BACK HOME, COCO BEANS!

Missing for ONE MONTH. 💔

Coco went missing the day after his family moved from Cape Town to Pretoria.Understandably, he was frightened and completely disorientated in his new surroundings.

For the first few days, his mom noticed him hiding underneath their shed. He stayed there for around three days… and then he vanished.

About two weeks after Coco went missing, his mom contacted us, and that's when K9 Arlo got to work. 🐕‍🦺👃🏻

Arlo worked like an absolute SUPERHERO! 🦸‍♂️🐾

He tracked Coco's scent to a property on a corner, next to a small field. We searched the area thoroughly, but unfortunately, Coco wasn't there when we arrived.

We didn't stop there. We continued working the surrounding area and connected with the neighbours.

One neighbour told us something incredibly important — she had seen Coco! She had even managed to pick him up, but he was injured and frightened, and he suddenly bolted again. She had no idea that he was a missing cat. 😔

Then, fast forward…

The gentleman who lived on the corner property contacted Coco's mom. He told her that a black cat had been coming into his yard and eating his dogs' food. 🐈‍⬛

Coco's mom immediately set up a trap.

And this morning…

🎉 COCO BEANS WAS RECOVERED! 🎉

One month after disappearing, Coco is finally home.

❌ MYTH: “MY CAT KNOWS HOW TO COME HOME.” 🐱🏠

One of the most common things we hear when a cat goes missing is:

“He knows the area. He'll come home.”
“She always comes back.”
“He's only gone for a little while.”

Unfortunately, it isn't always that simple.

A cat that is frightened, displaced or disorientated can enter what we call survival mode. Their behaviour can change dramatically from what you know as their normal personality.

A loving, social cat who normally comes running when you call their name may suddenly:

🐾 Hide silently — sometimes in places you would never expect.

🐾 Stay very close to where they escaped or were last seen — but remain completely concealed.

🐾 Ignore your voice — even if they can hear you calling.

🐾 Become reluctant to move — because staying hidden feels safer than exposing themselves.

🐾 Become active at different times — often moving when the environment is quiet and there is less human activity.

🐾 Fail to respond to food, treats or familiar sounds — especially when fear is overriding their normal behaviour.

And this is one of the hardest things for an owner to understand:

Your cat may hear you calling.
Your cat may know you're there.
Your cat may even be only a few metres away...
and still not come out. 💔

This doesn't mean your cat doesn't love you.

It doesn't mean they've forgotten you.

And it certainly doesn't mean they're choosing not to come home.

They're scared.

Understanding lost-pet behaviour is therefore incredibly important when searching for a missing cat. Searching harder isn't always the answer.

This is why simply walking around calling your cat's name for hours may not produce the result you're hoping for.

🔎 A missing-pet search needs to be strategic.

Don't give up simply because you haven't seen or heard your cat.

Silence does NOT necessarily mean they aren't there.

Your cat isn't necessarily ignoring you.

They may simply be trying to survive. 🐾

We apologise for being so quiet over the past two weeks. Our hearts and minds have been completely consumed with our beautiful Labrador, Kion, and how quickly he has been deteriorating. 💔

His usual vet had been treating him for kennel cough, but something just didn't feel right. It simply didn't make sense to us. We decided to get a second opinion, and the vet immediately picked up that Kion has lung cancer — and that it is quite aggressive.

I was in complete shock.

My nine-year-old puppy? Lung cancer? I just couldn't believe it. I was in disbelief and honestly still am.

A very good friend recommended another vet, so we made an appointment and saw him on Tuesday. He quickly confirmed the same devastating news. My Kion has lung cancer, and there is nothing they can do for him.

They have estimated that we may have just 4–6 weeks left with him...

How does one even begin to process news like that? 💔

For now, we have brought him home, where he is comfortable and surrounded by love. And while he still can, he's enjoying all the things his heart desires — chicken, KFC, Flings chips, viennas, biltong, steak pies and whatever else he feels like having. 🐾❤️

For now, he's comfortable... but my heart is so heavy.

In the space of just one year, I have lost K9 Red and K9 Khaos. And now we are facing the heartbreaking reality of having to say goodbye to my best friend, my Kion.

I honestly don't know how to do this again. All we can do now is make every moment count, spoil him endlessly, love him fiercely and let him know every single day just how incredibly loved he is.

Please keep our boy in your thoughts. ❤️🐾

We just want to extend our deepest condolences to Siam's family during this heartbreaking time. 💔

There was a very tragic story behind her passing, which we won't go into detail about, but our hearts are truly broken for her family and everyone who loved her.

You were so loved, precious girl. You were cared for and you mattered. Rest peacefully, beautiful Siam. 🐾🤍🌈

The Springer Spaniel

There is so much more to a Springer Spaniel than their beautiful looks and wagging tails! ❤️

The English Springer Spaniel is an intelligent, energetic and incredibly versatile working breed. Originally developed as a flushing and retrieving gundog, Springers were bred to work closely with their handlers, use their incredible noses, cover ground efficiently and remain focused on the job at hand.

Their natural abilities include:

🐾 Exceptional scenting ability — their noses are powerful tools, capable of following and distinguishing scents with incredible accuracy.

🐾 High intelligence — Springers learn quickly and thrive when they have a purpose and something to do.

🐾 Strong work ethic — a well-bred working Springer often has an amazing desire to work and please their handler.

🐾 Endurance & athleticism — they are energetic dogs designed to work for extended periods and cover challenging terrain.

🎉🐾 WELCOME BACK HOME, Paddlington! 🩵🏡

Six very long days had his family searching high and low for this handsome boy.

This morning, K9 Arlo wasted no time getting to work! 🐶👃 He quickly picked up Paddlington's scent, taking us across the road to a neighbour's house before leading us to the property behind it in the next street.

But Paddlington clearly decided he was playing the world's most serious game of hide-and-seek! 🙈 He wasn't making a sound and definitely didn't want to be seen.

Just a few hours after we finished the search, we got the best phone call... 📞❤️

The neighbour where Arlo had picked up the strongest scent discovered Paddlington tucked away inside the roof of her house! 😹🏠

Safe, healthy, and completely unharmed... just very, very hungry!

Another fantastic job by K9 Arlo, proving once again that scent never lies. It tells the story—we just have to follow it.

Welcome home, beautiful boy! Enjoy all the cuddles (and extra dinners) you've earned! 🩵🐾
