🐴 Why it matters where your horse comes from.
A beautiful photograph can show you many things about a horse. But a photograph cannot always tell you the story behind that horse.
For a breeder, that story often begins long before the foal is even born. The breeder knows the mare, the stallion and the bloodlines, carefully considering which combination could produce the right foal for the future.
And once the foal is born, years of work begin. Raising a young horse requires time, money, knowledge, patience, care and love. Quality feed, veterinary care, farrier work, proper keeping and handling – while watching the young horse grow and develop day by day.
A breeder does not meet the horse for the first time when it is put up for sale. They have known it since it was a foal. They know its character, its movement, its strengths, its personality and what kind of rider it might truly suit.
There is also the value of known parentage and bloodlines. Knowing the parents and, in many cases, several generations of the family gives us important information and removes a great deal of uncertainty.
A trader and a breeder simply have different roles. A trader may have a beautiful horse, excellent photographs and a great ability to find the right buyer. But a breeder sees years of work and dedication behind the horse, not simply the moment when it becomes available for sale.
For a breeder, the goal is not simply a quick sale.
It is to breed horses that are suitable for riders and to find the right horse for the right person.
And when a horse leaves the breeding farm, a part of the breeder's work leaves with it. Every horse represents, in some way, the breeding programme and the breed itself.
That is why a breeder wants every horse leaving the farm to find a good home, to thrive, and to represent everything that has been built over many years.
So that years later, when the breeder sees that horse and what it has achieved, they can proudly say:
“I bred this horse.” ❤️
And if the new owner has questions later, needs advice or simply wants to talk something through, a good breeder is still there. Because they have known that horse not since yesterday, but from the very beginning of its story.
