Trio Animal Foundation After the dogs have received medical treatment, TAF pairs them up with our therapy dogs to focus on their emotional rehabilitation.

TAF is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that pays for the medical bills of some of the sickest, abused and neglected dogs impounded at Animal Control or left to fend for themselves on the streets of Chicago. The Trio Animal Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that pays for the medical bills of some of the sickest, abused pets left behind at open access shelters. Once we fix their

bodies we are able to heal their hearts and teach them to trust again, making them adoptable and ready for their forever homes. But that’s not all …TAF also assists shelters, rescues and individuals by paying the medical bills of homeless pets while promoting adoption and responsible pet ownership, including spay and neuter.

We have a house full of Frenchie girls this morning! Tomorrow both Margo and Ivy have big vet appointments and I will be bringing them to both. Margo will have her ears reassessed to see if the infection is going and if she is approved to have heart surgery on June 18th. There is one little hole in the back of one of her ears that just refuses to heal. It is the same location as the abscess she had for a very long time.

Secondly, Ivy will have a drain put in the ear where a hematoma continues to form. Every time that it is drained, it fills right back up. We will have a culture of the fluid sent out to see what type of bacteria we are dealing with to see if we can get more aggressive with her treatment.

Between Louisa, Margo and Ivy, we might just have to start a Frenchie fund. Good thing those squishy faces are so darn cute and lovable. I'll make sure to keep you updated!

Senior, toothless, gentle as could be, Penelope is looking for her forever home...

Estimated to be around 14 years old, Penelope is a survivor. She found her way into rescue after her owner threw her out the front door. Penelope spent time at a police station and ultimately ended up at an open access shelter. When TAF was asked to help Penelope, we had no idea the medical journey that was soon to follow. Penelope had both of her ear drums burst, fractured sternum, rotten teeth, GI issues and mammary tumors. With wonky back legs and a crooked little spine, we weren’t sure what the future would hold for Penelope. Since October, Penelope has undergone 2 surgeries and underwent just about every test possible. It seems now that her body is back on track, and we have figured out what makes Penelope tick.

After months of adjusting her food and supplements, Penelope finally has no more issues with her GI tract. She primarily chooses to use potty pads and if there is an option to go outside, will go on the turf. There will, however, be occasional accidents on the floor. If that stresses you out, Penelope is not the right pup for you.

Penelope LOVES to sunbathe. It is most definitely her favorite activity. Penelope is good with people, kids and dogs. When it comes to big dogs, Penelope can get a bit bossy and stressed out. She will run up and bark at them. With no teeth, she is no threat, but I worry that another dog might act out towards her and she will not be able to defend herself. She is like a white bunny rabbit that barks.

Penelope walks like an old lady dog and is quite stiff. Weighing in at around 8lbs, it is easy to pick Penelope up. Penelope does not ask for much and just wants to be loved. Her previous owner was not kind to Penelope, and fearing that she might be hit, Penelope will fall to her back when you go to pick her up. You need to scoop her up like a baby to ensure that she doesn’t get hurt.

Alma asked if she could do her training and practice her social skills at the hot dog fest down the street today. She worked on impulse control and made sure that everyone had a smile on their face. Though she did not get a hotdog at the street fest, she was everyone's favorite Chicago style dog... no ketchup, of course.

Our blind senior pup Walter is just the sweetest little guy. Once he puts on a bit more weight and his iron levels improve, he will go in for surgery to have a dental and be neutered. The is a growth in his testicles that will need to be sent off and biopsied. The growth that you see on his arm is bellied to be benign. It is not attached to the muscle and moves around.

With a busy house full of active pups, we have asked The Moon Dog Farm if they would foster Walter for us. They have a sanctuary room with some of the gentlest blind dogs you will ever meet. It is calm as could be and a great place for Walter to recover. Once Walter is medically cleared, he will be available for adoption. Weighing in at just under 5 lbs, Walter loves to be carried and be part of the pack.

6 month old Alma is already paying it forward! With the help of her trainer, Rachel Findley, TAF's youngest therapy dog (in training) visited Chicago Canine Rescue to help work with one of their pups. A 1 year old Akita mix named Limburger needed a playmate that could match his energy. We hear that Alma did a great job and made a big difference in Limburger's training. Both pups were so happy and we hope that bringing attention to Limburger will help to find him a forever home.

We are so proud of you Alma! ♥️

UPDATE: IVY IS GOING IN FOR SURGERY THIS MONDAY TO HAVE A DRAIN PUT IN HER EAR. ☹️

Ivy went to the vet to have the hematoma in her ear drained this evening. The doctor was able to make two openings with a syringe and drain it. When we were leaving her ear starting bleeding and once she shook her head it looked like a crime scene. The vet staff stopped everything cleaned Ivy up and supplied me with everything I would need to try and protect her ear from further damage. If Ivy's ear continues to fill with fluid, she will need to have a drain inserted. Fingers crossed, it doesn't come to that. 🤞

Ivy wanted to check I and than everyone for rooting for her. Ivy's "good ear" seems to be forming the same hematomas as her left ear. When she was examined last week, she was diagnosed with double ear infections. Her ear canals were both still open but her left ear looked like a piece of cauliflower. It is crumpled from old untreated hematomas. The photo today shows her newest hematoma. Tomorrow the vet will see if she can drain it with syringe. It that doesn't work, Ivy will be scheduled for surgery. Fingers crossed that this is a relatively easy fix. This little 20lb girl has already been through so much. I'll make sure to keep you posted! Please send positive thoughts and prayers her way. 🩷
