🪄 Tail Set & Croup…

In the German Shorthaired Pointer, correct tail set and carriage begin with the croup. The croup should be slightly sloping, providing the proper angle for a tail that is set firm at the base and tapers naturally.

When the dog is relaxed, the tail should hang down naturally.

In motion, it should be carried level with the topline, never curled over the back or hooked toward the head. This correct carriage reflects sound structure, efficient movement, and proper temperament.

A flat or steep croup can affect tail set and spoil the outline, while a tail carried too high or too low detracts from the strong, athletic silhouette that defines the German Shorthaired Pointer as a versatile hunting dog.
