Update! She was adopted!! :)
Maria Torres is a firece advocate for the Leavenworth shelter in Leavenworth, KS
Read what she had to say about a dog named Kora. Maria created this moving video to help Kora.
This is such a heartbreaking story.
Let's work together to help her find her people
"Kora had been waiting nearly 300 days to find a home.
After almost a year of waiting, she was finally chosen. But just a few weeks later, Kora was found as a stray. I later learned that she had been on her own for several days before she was found.
It hurt so much to put her back into the same kennel where she had spent nearly her entire young life waiting. And for the first time ever, Kora refused to go back inside.
Kora arrived at the shelter when she was only a 7-month-old puppy. I never expected her to grow up within these walls, watching the dogs to her left and right leave while she continued to wait.
Kora is not a bad dog. She is friendly, sweet, and has so much love to give. But people look at her breed and her color and see just one more grey pittie waiting in a shelter.
Kora’s previous adopter does not have the means to continue caring for her, and unfortunately, Kora finds herself waiting once again.
She is now about 18–20 months old. She is high energy and can be jumpy, so older kids are recommended. She met my 4-year-old and did great with her. Her previous home also had another dog, but a meet and greet will be needed with any resident dogs to make sure they are a good fit.
Kora has already lost so much of her puppyhood waiting behind these walls. She waited nearly 300 days, finally got her chance, and somehow ended up right back where she started.
I just want the next time Kora walks out those doors to truly be for good."
