To our wonderful supporters:
I've gone back and forth on whether I wanted to make an official statement. But after seeing everything coming out about Epic, and the way you all showed up for us, I feel like it’s finally time.
Back in April of last year, Alexis Arnold of Epic Cons reached out asking if we’d host a meet and greet at our rescue - Kat Pawz Sanctuary- with Riley Voelkel. We were told a donation would be made in return. We agreed, thinking it would be great for the rescue and the animals we care so much about to get some exposure and hopefully some furever homes!
But once we said yes, communication basically stopped. We didn’t know what we were supposed to do or provide. We ended up having to rent chairs, bring refreshments, and even shuttle people from a nearby church to our rescue on our ATV just to make sure it didn’t fall apart. We came out of our own pockets to make it work.
And the donation? Never happened. It was advertised like we were receiving something, but we got nothing. People thought they were helping a cause, and that hurts.
Let me be clear: Riley was absolutely lovely. She had no idea any of this was going on. None of this is on her or the other actors. Please don’t message her as she’s expecting right now and doesn’t need that stress.
We stayed quiet because we were scared. Around here, you know how fast you can be shut down or pushed out if you speak against certain people or companies. But when everything started coming to light, some very good friends encouraged us to share what we went through.
And I can’t even explain what happened after that.
You all, this incredible fandom, showed up for us. You sent donations, wishlist items, and the kindest messages. After losing my sister in January, who lived for this rescue, it’s been so hard. But your love reminded me that we’re not alone and that what we’re doing matters.
We’ve all lost something in this. Some lost money, some lost trust. But what we’ve gained, your support, your kindness, it’s meant the world.
Thank you to every single person who stood up for us. Thank you to the local businesses who’ve backed us. We love you more than you know.
