I'm Alix, and I live right outside of Richmond Virginia. Both of my daughters, Shelby and Olivia, love to assist with the kitten rescue and care for the kittens. They are such a big help. Shelby, my older daughter, is my right hand when I cannot be here or if I am away at work. She has trained and learned closely beside me about proper neonate care for the last 3 years. She wishes to continue kitt

en rescue when she is an adult and out on her own! I work a full time job and a part time job, in addition to kitten rescue. Alix's Fosters is not yet a non profit, but that is the long term goal. Because of this, we don't qualify for grants or large business donations, just the help of the community with purchase off of our amazon supply wish list or venmo, cash app and paypal donations.

A couple of you have sent items off of my baby registry from Amazon and I cannot bring to express my gratitude ‼️ We are starting over soooo… there was a lot needed 😆 Here is a recent update on how things are going 💗

I’ve had weekly blood draws for about 14 or 15 weeks I guess it is … Glad to get a bit of a reprieve since things are looking okay. However - I now have iron and magnesium added to my meds, but that’s okay.
Still on 1800mg a day of my main BP medication (this was 200mg at the beginning of pregnancy) and 10 mg of an additional BP med to help with my fluid pill and potassium on hand as needed. Still have monthly visits with Cardiology, Maternal Fetal Medicine as well as my OB and that won’t change. I’m okay with that too to ensure my heart starts strong and baby girl continues thriving 🎉 Modified work hours insisted on by cardiologist will continue until baby girl is here.
I get up a lot at night, and started getting Charlie horses while trying to sleep, depending on how she’s positioned, getting up out of bed takes some effort 😆Their plan is taking her between 36-37 weeks bc of my heart and BP 💗 SOME recent movements she makes HURT as she’s growing big! Again - that’s fine. I’m soaking up every single bit - good or bad. We love you baby girl!

He’s still fighting 💕

Another night down ✔️
Last night was 24 hours this little guy has been with us. Chowder still gets his little eyes cleaned several times a day along with ointment/drops applied. As of last night at his 24 hour weigh in, he went from 10.7 ounces at intake, to 11.5 oz 🎉
His appetite is getting better and better! Still not much energy but that’s expected. We hope to see that start to pick up in another 24 hours or so. He will continue his oral antibiotic.
For these pics little man got to enjoy some moments of warm fresh air - he seemed to love it!

Flea collars on little guys..let’s talk about it!

Yesterday on intake - Chowder had an a flea collar as you see in the photo. Flea collars are NOT meant for kittens under 8 weeks old.
Chowder is an estimated 4 weeks old. A kittens skin is thinner, and absorbs meds at a different rate - meaning they can get the dose meant for an adult or older kitten, at a faster rate. Not good.

Many flea medications are neurotoxins designed to attack a flea's nervous system. If a kitten's system is too young or fragile, it can suffer from severe adverse reactions.
In addition, a kitten's liver and kidneys cannot metabolize and filter out synthetic chemicals, leading to toxic build-up.

So how do you get fleas off of a kitten too young for flea meds?
Dawn dish soap 🫧 A warm bath 🛁
There’s a reason they show baby ducks on the bottle! 💕 It’s perfectly safe and cuts through oil, dirt or grease beautifully. You will start to see fleas moving around once the kitten gets wet, tweezers make it easy to grab these little boogers and pull them off!

This baby boys name is Chowder 💙
This photo was this morning at roughly 12 hours in.

This was after a restful night and first dose of eye meds and oral meds. Last night he ate - but not much. ‼️🎉This morning …. He quadrupled what he ate last night and while still not much energy - was at least sitting up watching the ceiling fan blades spin. Lots of our incubator babies do this. This is hopeful because it lets us know that he can see shadows at the least. We will know more as time passes and his infection clears.

After he is warm and dry after some time in the incubator we will attempt feeding again.

I need to keep my happy ass off of Facebook. We were down to the one calico kitten, Jelly. Closed to intake because our baby girl is coming in a little less than three months. 
I see this baby and that all goes away. We’re picking this sweetie pie up THIS evening! Almost an hour from us but it’s happening!
Will needs LOTS of TLC! My hope is that the eyes aren’t too far gone!
