🐾✨ TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY — PERCY ✨🐾
Sometimes a transformation isn’t just about how a dog looks.
Sometimes it’s about finally feeling safe.
Learning to trust.
Finding your person.
And being given the opportunity to leave survival behind.
Today, we want to remind everyone why getting some of our dogs off island through Pets With Wings Freedom Flights is so incredibly important.
And before we say anything else, we want to make something very clear — we have AMAZING adopters right here in St. Thomas. ❤️ We have some of the very best Coconut Retriever moms and dads imaginable.
There simply aren’t enough homes for the number of animals who need them.
For some dogs, a Freedom Flight opens an entirely new world of possibilities — more rescues, more adopters and a greater chance of finding that one person who was meant just for them.
🐶 Percy is living proof.
Percy’s story began near the Carrot Bay dumpsters.
As far as we know, Percy was born there. His mother and his siblings were killed, but somehow this little puppy survived.
Barely.
When Percy was found, his body showed the signs of a life spent surviving. He had already experienced more trauma than any puppy ever should.
He came to the Humane Society of St. Thomas and slowly began learning something completely new…
People could be kind.
Hands could bring comfort instead of fear.
Food would come again tomorrow.
And maybe — just maybe — he could trust.
Percy was eventually adopted, but after running away from his home, one of our incredible volunteers stepped forward and said, “I’ll take him.”
She gave Percy the safety and stability he needed.
Then, just weeks before a Freedom Flight, a call came.
Someone who had previously visited Percy at the shelter had never forgotten him.
She had fallen completely in love with that scared little Coconut Retriever.
And Percy’s life was about to change forever. ❤️
Today, Percy isn’t surviving beside a dumpster.
He’s camping. 🏕️
He goes on car rides. 🚗
He gets pup cups. 🐾
He apparently enjoys chips dipped in chip dip. 😂
He has his very own pajamas. 🥹
And most importantly…
He has a mom who absolutely adores him.
The frightened puppy who once had to figure out how to survive on the streets now knows something very different.
Love.
His past will always be part of Percy’s story, but it no longer defines his life.
His mom loved that past away.
Today Percy knows warm beds, adventures, camping trips, treats, pajamas and what it feels like to belong completely to someone.
❤️ THIS is why we do what we do.
This is why our staff keeps going.
Why our volunteers keep showing up.
Why rescues say yes.
Why Pets With Wings keeps fighting to secure those precious Freedom Flight seats.
And why YOU continue supporting the Humane Society of St. Thomas.
Because somewhere out there could be a Percy…
And somewhere else could be the person who has been waiting their whole life to love him.
Sometimes all we have to do is help them find each other. ✈️🐾❤️
