Not a dog training post, but Bark Harbour lost one of its founding fathers today. Freckles is the reason on how I became the balanced dog trainer I am today. This man was a naughty boy, but also the best dog I could ever ask for. Pet ownership is not for the faint of heart. They may only be here for a small part of our life, but to them we were their whole world. They don’t make the words for how much I’ll miss you. Love ya Frex! 💔🌈🪽

Teddy is bringing in the New Year with some strong obedience! He’s been his practicing patience and seeing just how rewarding it can be! Does your pup have any resolutions for the new year they could be practicing?

How is it already November??

I’m curious how everyone’s pups did with the trick or treaters as well as seeing scary Halloween yard decor?

I love to take dogs to see Halloween decorations as a great way to socialize them to odd movements and images that may not appear normal to everyday. Not to mention a great distraction to up your obedience commands !

Also, did you know pairing the place command to the sound of the doorbell is a great way to work on calm greetings? Especially when the doorbell may be going off every 5 minutes every October 31st. 🤪

I was a little offended that neither Teddy nor Asher paid any attention to my skeletons. Guess I’ll have to spook the yard up even more next year! But as for right now.. I think I hear Santa’s sleigh bells ringing ;)

And that’s a WRAP!

These brothers have both completed their 3 Week Board and Train and are back home with their family.

Leo (the apricot one) wrapped up his training in November. After having him back home for a few weeks , his family decided it was time to have their older dog sent for training as well. (Hugo on the left)

These boys can now run free in their large wooded back yard to play fetch and romp around. And goodbye are the days of barking at leafs blowing in the wind outside the window!

The more rules and boundaries you create the more freedom and privileges your dog can enjoy!

This is why I will always advocate the crate. If your dog does anything other than sleep when you are gone, (or are under the age of 2) they should be crated. It is an excellent management tool.

And apparently a great way to avoid house fires 🥴

Todays Pet of the Week is Archie!

Archie is a young rambunctious German Shorthaired Pointer. He’a big goof ball of a guy and one of the larger pointers that I have trained

GSPs are A beautiful breed. You can expect every one of these dogs to come with non stop energy and movement. The perk is when they do settle down, they give the best snuggles!
