Sometimes it’s about more than the ribbons. ❤️🐾
If you follow Limestone River Labradors, you see a lot of exciting moments.
🏆 Winners Dog.
🏆 Best of Winners.
🏆 Best of Breed.
🏆 New titles.
🏆 Beautiful win photos.
And believe us—we are incredibly proud of every single one of those moments.
But those pictures only show a tiny piece of who we are and what we do.
Behind every dog we own, show, breed, or stand at stud are countless hours of research, training, health testing, planning, conversations, travel, and sometimes some incredibly difficult decisions.
Because for us, responsible breeding starts long before two dogs are ever bred.
Health matters.
We believe breeding dogs should be appropriately health tested and evaluated before they contribute to the next generation. A beautiful dog and an impressive pedigree mean very little if we aren’t also doing everything we reasonably can to protect the health of the puppies that come after them.
Pedigrees matter.
A pedigree isn’t simply a list of impressive names or champions. It tells a story. We study pedigrees because we want to understand the dogs behind our dogs—their strengths, their weaknesses, their health, their structure, their temperaments, and what generations before them may contribute to generations still to come.
Training matters.
Our dogs put in the work. From basic manners and puppy classes to learning how to confidently walk into a show ring, training builds much more than a show dog. It builds confident, well-adjusted Labradors who can handle the world around them.
Showing matters to us, too—but maybe not for the reason people think.
Of course we love winning. We aren’t going to pretend those ribbons aren’t exciting! 😂
But showing also allows our dogs to be evaluated against the Labrador Retriever breed standard. Titles don’t make a dog worthy of being loved, and they certainly aren’t the only thing that determines whether a dog should be bred. They are simply another piece of the puzzle.
And as stud owners, we take our responsibility especially seriously.
When one of our boys contributes to a litter, those puppies may go on to become beloved family companions, show dogs, working dogs, or even part of another breeding program someday.
That means our responsibility doesn’t stop with our dog.
We care about the females our boys are bred to. We care about health testing. We care about pedigrees. We care about temperament and structure. We care about the goals behind a breeding.
And most of all, we care about the puppies that haven’t even been born yet.
Because every breeding decision leaves a footprint on this breed.
But there is another side of Limestone River Labradors that might be the most important one of all.
We are small. And that’s intentional.
We aren’t a large commercial kennel.
We are a family who happens to be ridiculously passionate about Labrador Retrievers.
Our dogs live life with us.
They are in our home. They are under our feet. They ride in our vehicles. They play in our yard. They go to training. They travel to shows. They make us proud, make us laugh, occasionally drive us absolutely insane, and somehow always manage to take up significantly more of the bed than seems physically possible. 😂
Before they are champions, breeding dogs, pedigrees, titles, or potential studs…
they are ours.
They are family.
And if tomorrow every ribbon disappeared and none of them ever stepped into another show ring, that wouldn’t change their place in our home for one second.
So yes—you’ll keep seeing the win pictures. 😉🏆
You’ll see us celebrate the ribbons, the titles, the milestones and those incredible moments when months or years of work come together.
But we also want you to know what’s behind those pictures.
A small family kennel.
A whole lot of research.
A whole lot of work.
Probably an unreasonable amount of dog hair. 😂
And an enormous amount of love and respect for this breed.
We don’t just want to produce beautiful Labradors.
We want to do our small part to leave the Labrador Retriever better than we found it. ❤️🐾
That is what Limestone River Labradors means to us.
