🐾 Oral vs. Topical Flea & Tick Prevention — What’s Best for Your Pet?

When it comes to protecting your furry family members, not all preventatives are created equal. Oral flea and tick preventatives offer some major advantages over topical options:

✔️ **Consistent Protection** – No worries about washing it off after baths, swimming, or rainy days.
✔️ **Full-Body Coverage** – Oral medications work from the inside out, so there are no missed spots.
✔️ **No Residue** – Skip the greasy feeling on your pet’s coat (and your hands!).
✔️ **Safe for Snuggles** – No need to limit contact with your pet after application.
✔️ **Fast-Acting & Effective** – Many oral options start killing fleas and ticks quickly and stay effective for weeks to months.

Topicals can still be useful in certain situations, but for many pets and families, oral prevention is the easier, cleaner, and more reliable choice.

Not sure what’s best for your pet? We’re here to help—just ask! 🐶🐱

March is National Nutrition Month. Good nutrition supports a healthy weight, shiny coat, strong joints, and overall wellness for your pet.

Here are a few simple ways to make every meal count:

Choose the right diet:
Match food to your pet’s life stage, size, activity level, and health needs. Therapeutic diets may help with conditions like allergies, urinary issues, or joint support.

Measure portions:
Use a measuring cup or kitchen scale to avoid overfeeding. Treats should be a small part of daily calories.

Watch for healthy weight:
Check body condition regularly. You should feel ribs with light pressure
and see a defined waist from above.

Ask us for guidance:
We can tailor nutrition plans, recommend appropriate diets, and help
with weight‑loss goals in a safe, steady way.

Give Us A Call: 763-856-4848
We are happy to help you choose the right nutrition plan for your pet!

☣ It is Pet Poison Prevention Week and a good time to consider what to do if you suspect your pet has been exposed to something toxic. In the event of an accidental poisoning, take action quickly, it’s not a wait and see kind of scenario. Here are your options:
Call us first if it is during our business hours:
ZimmVet-763.856.4848
*Contact a Veterinary ER if it is after hours*

If bringing your pet in to us or the ER, make sure to bring a sample of what they were exposed to with you if possible. This can help us determine the best course of action. You can also call a poison control hotline for pets to determine if what/the amount your pet was exposed to is toxic for a fee. These lines are great for determining next steps like bringing your pet into an ER or to ease your
worries about that single chocolate donut your dog got ahold of.
