As Independence Day draws near, we would like to extend our warmest greetings to all for a festive, healthy, and safe celebration. It is crucial to recognize that the loud noises emanating from fireworks can cause considerable distress to numerous pets. Therefore, please ensure that your pets are comfortable, securely confined, and not presumed to be unaffected by the noise. During my tenure at the Animal Shelter, I was consistently astonished by the number of pets brought in after Independence Day and the amount of reunification with their owners. Let us prioritize safety: keep your pets indoors and by your side.

Every year I try to remind our clients that even though fall is around the corner, flea
season is still in full swing. With 40 years grooming it has been our experience that the worst time for fleas is later in the season. Normally September and even later in to October can be the worst of the flea season as it is normally warm temperatures during the daytime and cooler at nights. The fleas look for whatever is warm and unfortunate that is normally your pets. So I always recommend to my clients to speak to your veterinarian and continue your pets flea & tick treatment through October. Be safe not sorry!

We have seen an influx of dogs with embedded ticks in their skin over the past few days, and none of the owners were aware of the problem. It is vital to acknowledge that we are in the midst of tick season. Although ticks can be present throughout the year, spring is typically the peak season. To ensure your pet's safety, consider the following guidelines: 1. Consult your veterinarian to determine the most effective flea and tick treatments for your pet. When purchasing treatments from pet stores, feed mills, or chain stores, adhere strictly to the instructions. 2. Avoid areas with tall grasses and dense woods. 3. Maintain your pet's grooming to facilitate regular tick checks. 4. If you find a tick on your pet's skin, remove it completely and monitor the bite area for signs of swelling, redness, or infection. Be aware of potential symptoms in your pet, including loss of appetite, lethargy, or swollen joints. If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms after tick removal, seek veterinary advice. Prioritize your pet's safety and well-being.
