As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that our pets can be affected by the heat just as much as we are! ๐พ Here are a few simple ways to help keep your furry family members safe this summer:
1. Walk During Cooler Hours
Early mornings and evenings are usually the safest times for walks. Midday temperatures can be dangerous, especially for dogs who are eager to keep going even when they're overheating.
2. Check the Pavement
Before heading out, place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5-7 seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws!
3. Provide Plenty of Fresh Water
Whether you're at home or on the go, make sure your pet always has access to clean, fresh water. Hydration is one of the best defenses against heat-related illness!
4. Know the Signs of Overheating
Be sure to watch for: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, difficulty breathing, or weakness/stumbling. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian.
5. Never Leave Pets in a Parked Car
Even with windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerous in just a matter of minutes!
Remember, a little extra caution can go a long way toward keeping our pets safe, comfortable, and happy all summer long! โค๏ธ
