Me and my new friend say please forgive us for any schedule conflicts over the next couple of weeks. Between puppies getting fixed, baby showers, babymoons and teaching Bodywork, the calendar is a little crazy.

Today we did something new! We had a "Fix a Test Show" at home! Every rider rode a dressage test, received feedback and the second time around was the scored/placed test! Everyone did a great job and the feedback was utilized for an amazing second attempt!! Apologies I don't have pictures of everyone!

These 2 have come so far together!!!!! Hard to believe that Elysia hasn't even been riding for a year yet!!!!

“Green flags in a riding instructor.” Not every good rider is a good instructor.

There are alot of people out there with zero horse knowledge trying to find a good place to start riding for either themselves or a child. Whether you go with us or not, here is a good guideline on finding a solid lesson barn.

If you’re choosing a lesson program, here are green flags to look for:

🟢 They teach more than just riding. Kids learn to halter, groom, tack up, and care for the horse, not just sit in the saddle.

🟢 They let kids struggle a little before stepping in. Confidence is built through problem-solving, not constant rescuing.

🟢 Safety is consistent, not reactive. Helmets are on. Rules are clear. Horses are appropriately matched. Progress is not rushed.

🟢 They explain the “why,” not just bark commands. Kids understand what they’re doing and why it matters.

🟢 They correct calmly. No shaming. No humiliation.

🟢 They don’t chase ribbons at the expense of foundation.

🟢 Horses look healthy, relaxed, and well-managed. You can tell a lot about a program by how the horses look.

🟢 They have many students who have been there for long periods of time. High turnover is a red flag. Some is expected.

🟢 They’re still learning themselves. Clinics. Mentors. Continuing education.

A great instructor isn’t trying to create little professionals overnight.

They’re building capable humans who happen to ride.

The right program should grow your child’s confidence, responsibility, and work ethic, not just their posting trot.

That’s the difference.

To say that this pair has come a long way would be an understatement. The smile on Bonita Carrigan 's face says it all. Its been a long, slow journey but this horse has gone from refusing to move to trotting freely through poles and enjoying trail rides without a fuss. This horse has challenged me as an instructor but Bonita put in the work to make it happen. So proud!!!!!!!!

Then and NOW.

Sienna has been a student of Boundless Riding Academy since the very beginning. She now has her horses at her family's farm and recently got a new partner named Danny! She has grown into a beautiful and confident rider. Sienna has also taken 2 bodywork classes from Boundless Equine Bodywork! Her goal is to become a vet and I have no doubt that her dreams will come true.

Yes, I care about my client's equitation.

But

I care a million times more about how the horse moves and feels underneath them.

I'd rather see a wiggly lower leg if that means the horse is able to reach underneath themselves.

I'd rather see a slouched posture if that means the horse can swing through their back.

Those things can be tidied up over time.

Focusing too much on equitation can cause a stiff and/or rigid form which is not beneficial to the longevity and relaxation of the horse.

I want my students to move WITH the horse and that comes from a functional and relaxed posture from the human so the horse can move in a functional and relaxed posture.
