🎯 THE POWER OF NEGATIVE PUNISHMENT IN K9 TRAINING — WATCH THE DIFFERENCE. 🐕🔥

In this video, we demonstrate how negative punishment can be used to address distraction during bite work.

While the dog was actively working the decoy, a camera was introduced as a distraction. The dog momentarily came off task and shifted his attention toward the camera.

The consequence? The exercise immediately stopped. The decoy stepped away, and the dog lost access to the bite-work opportunity. No added correction was necessary for this exercise.

After approximately five minutes, the dog was brought back into the same scenario, and the camera was introduced again. This time, the dog remained focused on the work and paid no attention to the distraction.

🧠 Why does this matter?

Negative punishment means removing something the dog wants in order to reduce an unwanted behavior. In this scenario, access to the bite-work opportunity was removed when the dog disengaged from the task.

The video shows both parts of the process:
✅ The initial distraction and the immediate removal of the reward opportunity.
✅ The follow-up session, where the dog demonstrates improved focus despite the camera being present again.

One exercise doesn't prove a lasting behavioral change, but it demonstrates how clearly timed consequences can influence a dog's choices in training.

Sometimes, the most effective lesson isn't adding pressure — it's taking the opportunity to work away.

🐕💥 Second Session of Protection Foundation! 💥🐕

Working a green dog through the fundamentals and building a solid foundation one step at a time. Today, we focused on two of the four quadrants of prey drive: excitement/arousal and chase. 🔥

The goal is to develop engagement, build intensity, and channel that natural prey drive with purpose. At this stage, it’s all about creating the right picture, developing confidence, and letting the dog learn while keeping the work structured and productive.

And don’t worry… 😉 the bite pillow will eventually become the man! 💪 For now, we’re building the foundation, developing the drive, and letting the dog learn the game one step at a time. 🐾

Good foundations make for better dogs down the road. One session at a time!

🇳🇱🇺🇸 I’m honored to have been invited to Holland for a month to assist with training military working dogs in explosive detection and to attend the KNPV Nationals.
I’ll be working alongside experienced trainers and handlers, sharing knowledge, learning from their program, and gaining experience that I can bring back home. Also, sharing my education to them as well.
Looking forward to the opportunity and grateful for the invitation.

6 month old off leash! Use a long line, build consistency, and proof around distractions. Off-leash comes after reliability, not before.
Freedom is earned through clear communication and trust! There is an e-collar on the k9, obviously the e-collar is clear!

This week, Enforcer Working Dogs was contacted by a nearby rehabilitation facility seeking assistance with ongoing drug interdiction concerns within their building.
In response, we deployed two of our highly trained K-9 teams, K9 Koda and K9 Roman, to lead the effort. Both teams conducted a thorough and focused sweep of the facility, working with precision and discipline throughout the operation.
During deployment, the K-9 units made positive indications on multiple occasions successfully locating illicit substances that had been concealed within the building. Their performance allowed staff to address these issues promptly and reinforce a safe, substance-free environment.
