How about some good news? 🎉🐾 It's time for a Ripple update!

Today was a big day for Ripple—her hobble came off, and she is moving around so much more confidently! While she still has a road ahead of her and will likely need additional orthopedic procedures, we're thrilled to report that her hip is staying in place so far. 🤞 Fingers crossed that continues!

There’s more good news. When Ripple was first found, she weighed less than 4 pounds despite being a large adult cat. Today, she's closing in on 5 pounds! That's over a pound gained thanks to good food, medical care, and lots of TLC. Even her fur is looking healthier and shinier as she continues to recover.

The current plan is to keep her on her thyroid medication for another 2 to 3 weeks while we continue monitoring her hip. After that, she'll have repeat bloodwork, and if everything looks good, she'll hopefully be cleared to receive the radioactive iodine injection that could cure her hyperthyroidism once and for all.

She's not out of the woods yet, but Ripple has already come so far. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared her story, and kept her in your thoughts. Every bit of support is helping give this sweet girl the second chance she deserves. ❤️

💔 June is starting off with a bang... and unfortunately, so are the vet bills.

Many of you have been wondering why little Beatrice is still here when all of her Boston Terrier siblings have found homes. The answer is something we never expected.

Beatrice is a happy, bouncy puppy who loves to play, eats like a champion, and doesn't act sick at all. But we noticed something unusual every time we picked her up and touched her chest—a strange little "tickle" that didn't feel quite right.

Today, our concerns were confirmed.

Our veterinarian believes Beatrice has Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect that occurs when a blood vessel that should close shortly after birth remains open. This causes abnormal blood flow and forces the heart to work much harder than it should. Without treatment, approximately 50% of puppies with PDA will not survive to see their first birthday.

The good news? PDA is often curable with surgery.

The bad news? This procedure is far beyond what a general practice veterinarian can perform. Beatrice now needs to see a veterinary cardiologist for specialized testing and surgery.

A referral has already been sent to the cardiology department at Ohio State University, and we are anxiously waiting to hear back so we can get her scheduled as quickly as possible.

The estimated cost for her diagnostics and surgery is between $5,000 and $6,000.

We never turn our backs on an animal because they need medical care, but we can't do it alone. If you would like to help give Beatrice the healthy future she deserves, please consider making a donation toward her lifesaving surgery.

Every dollar helps. Every share helps. Every act of kindness brings Beatrice one step closer to the normal, happy life she deserves. ❤️

Please keep this sweet girl in your thoughts as we begin this journey.Thank you for helping us give Beatrice the chance to grow up and enjoy the long, healthy life every puppy deserves. 🐾❤️

Tonight's play yard session came with a special guest instructor. 🐶🎓

Wiggles, our 5-year-old Beagle mix, took it upon himself to supervise the youngsters and pass along all of his hard-earned wisdom. Of course, Wiggles' lessons mostly consisted of "How to Convince Humans to Give You Treats" and "Which Grass Tastes the Best," but hey... knowledge is knowledge. 🌱🍖

His students for the evening were Vanilla Bean (tan) and Lima Bean (black and tan), our 3-month-old Great Pyrenees/Newfoundland/Shepherd/Pit mix sisters. The girls had an absolute blast romping around the yard, chasing each other, and keeping Professor Wiggles on his toes.

Between the zoomies, wrestling matches, and occasional snack breaks, we'd say class was a huge success. ❤️

If you're looking for a fun-loving companion, come meet Wiggles, Vanilla Bean, and Lima Bean. They're ready to teach you a thing or two about enjoying life!

UPDATE: CEEDEE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

At this rate, we may need to start a Beagle club! 🐶

Meet CeeDee, a 5-year-old Beagle mix who just arrived at New Lease on Life. He and Wiggles have already discovered they have a lot in common—both are Beagles, both are 5 years old, and both are looking forward to a fresh start and a bright future.

CeeDee's family purchased him as a tiny puppy from Harbor Pets, but due to financial hardship, they could no longer afford to keep him. Making the decision to surrender a beloved pet is never easy, but now CeeDee is hoping his next home will be forever.

This handsome guy is friendly, curious, and ready to trade shelter life for a couch, a family, and plenty of adventures. If you've been thinking about adding a Beagle to your family, CeeDee would love to meet you!

Come visit CeeDee and see if he's the missing piece of your family. ❤️

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. 💔

Peaches has watched two of her roommates pack their bags and head off to new homes while she waits patiently for her turn.

This sweet girl arrived from a county shelter with kittens in tow. Like so many young mama cats, she spent her babyhood raising babies of her own. She did an amazing job, and once her kittens were old enough, she came to New Lease on Life hoping her happily-ever-after was right around the corner.

But somehow, Peaches is still here.

At only 1 year old, Peaches is just a kitten herself. She's past the crazy baby stage but still young enough to have many years of love, adventures, and cuddles ahead of her. Now that her mom duties are over, she's ready to be the one getting spoiled for a change.

Can we help make sure Peaches is the next one saying goodbye to shelter life? 🧡She has such a relatable story—young mama cats often get overlooked while everyone falls in love with the kittens. Hopefully her turn is next. 🐾

Please use the link below to schedule an appt to meet her.

Max has one very important question...

Did somebody say TREAT?! 👀🐱

The second Max hears that magic word, he comes running! Churu treats are one of his favorite things in the world... right up there with petting, attention, and being told what a handsome boy he is.

Max is a 1-year-old black cat with a big personality and an even bigger love for people. He arrived at New Lease on Life with four other cats after their owner passed away. One by one, his feline friends found new homes. Now Max is the last one still waiting.

He's watched all of his companions leave, and we'd love nothing more than to see it finally be Max's turn.

If you're looking for a friendly, affectionate cat who will happily be your shadow (especially if treats are involved), come meet Max. We think you'll fall in love just as quickly as he falls in love with snack time. ❤️

Let's find Max the happy ending he deserves!

UPDATE: BANDIT AND SLINKY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!

It's been a while since we've had any fur noodles at the shelter, and these two are making up for lost time! 😂

Meet Bandit (the darker one) and Slinky, 1-year-old ferret brothers whose hobbies include zooming at top speed, diving through tunnels, inventing games only ferrets understand, and generally causing adorable chaos wherever they go.

Their owner is going through a divorce and, unfortunately, could no longer keep them, so now these playful boys are searching for a new home together.

If you've never had ferrets before, just know that life with them is never boring. They're curious, mischievous, endlessly entertaining, and guaranteed to make you laugh at least a dozen times a day.

Think you have room in your life for twice the fun and twice the chaos? Come meet Bandit and Slinky! ❤️

Please use the link below to schedule an appt to meet them. Use the "cats & small animals" option on the calendar.
