Two sssssssweet backyard friends found themselves in a ssssssticky situation this morning. Fortunately, York Veterinary Hospital has several Harry Potter fans who are fluent in the language of Parseltounge, and they were able to talk these two lovely black snakes into cooperating as we removed the garden netting that had entrapped them.
They were mosssssssst grateful but wanted us to pass along the message that plastic garden netting (sometimes sold as “bird netting” for fruit trees or as erosion control netting) is lethal to wildlife. Please explore other alternatives before using non-biodegradable products that can entangle wildlife.
Ssssssammy and Sssssssssamantha’s entrapment was caught early before the netting cut too deeply into their bodies and they are being released back into the wild to do their most beneficial work of rodent control and dispatching venomous snakes.
As the two snakes went on about their business after being rescued, we heard them whisper a soft, “Thanksssssssss.”
