Do not fill out an application and expect approval on a dog that we don’t have posted as available. We are NOT your average kennel. We are a little Doxie Hotel on 13 acres!! Our rooms have furniture, dog beds of all sizes, toys, and dog doors going out to the yards for total convenience any time, day or night. We currently have 9 doggie rooms and 8 nice sized fenced yards. Our goal is to make ever

y Dachshund as comfortable and happy as possible until their forever home is found, no matter how long it takes. Our building has room to grow with 3200 sf and we are currently expanding. We live on the property so we are never far away from our dogs. Our kids help out and our family has an overwhelming love for Dachshunds. Since we are a private rescue the only way we can operate is by charging adoption fees and with donations. Please consider donating to us or granting one of our Amazon wishes:

What to Expect from a Rescue Dog

Your new dog may have been abandoned, found as a stray, surrendered by a previous family, abused or neglected, or from a puppymill. The dog had to adjust to life at Chapman's Rescue and is now going home to a new, unfamiliarplace with strangers. Kind of scary if you think about it! Being gentle, considerate, kind and patient will help ease your new dog into his/her new life with you. Some rescue dogs may be very friendly at first while others may be reserved until they get to know you. Let the dog come to you – don't force him/her to do anything until you better understand his/her personality and behaviors. No dog is going to be "perfect" and due to their past history, rescued dogs may require special consideration. Rescue dogs have a higher chance of being very reserved or submissive at first due to their past history, but then tend to "come out of their shell" within 1-2 weeks. Don't feed pets in the same room together until they are showing no aggression or jealousy at mealtime. A dog that has been starved, or forced to give up food to other dogs in the past, may be very protective of the food you give it.

*WHERE AM I? * Your dog might be afraid and unsure of his new surroundings. If he appears to be scared, keep him in a small, quiet area to start, and take it slow. Don't allow children to bother the dog if he is afraid; fear can result in nipping. Instead, give your dog plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings, taking it one step at a time. Don't give up! Don't leave your other pets or small children unsupervised with the new dog until they are used to each other.

*OOPS! I'M SORRY * Even a potty trained dog can make mistakes in a new home! Expect this to happen. He doesn't know which door to go to or how to ask his new family what he wants. Keep a very watchful eye on your new friend and *confine him when you can't watch him*. The worst thing you can do is to physically reprimand a dog. This teaches the dog that he must go someplace you can't see him to eliminate. A firm "no" when you catch him in the act and placing him outside or on papers will teach him where it is appropriate to go. Some experts say not to place the dog exactly where you want him to go when you take him outside, but nearby and calling it over to that place. *The main thing is to reward good behavior and use firm verbal cues for bad behavior.

*It is not advised that you let the new member of your household free reign of the house when you are away for long periods of time. Use crate training as a positive way to confine your new dog for short periods of time.

*NEW RULES * Your new dog had a whole different set of rules in his previous home. He may have been allowed to sleep in bed or beg at the table. It's up to you to teach him your rules. Teaching proper behavior takes time and patience.

*ADJUSTMENT PERIOD * Allow several weeks to adapt to his new surroundings and up to four months to fully adjust (older dogs may take longer than young ones). Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. We assume that you will make a patient and concerted effort to achieve a successful placement. Sometimes rescued dogs may exhibit behavioral problems that could include house soiling, destructive behavior, mild aggression toward other pets or humans, submissive urination, clinging behavior, licking behavior, and hiding or cowering in bed. All rescued dogs will exhibit some behavior when entering a new home. Most of the time, bad behavior is of very short duration as the animal becomes used to its new surroundings. Chapman's will advise you regarding any behaviors that have been observed while the animal was in our care. These are some of the situations you may possibly run in to with your rescued dog. For the majority of adopters, however, after an initial few days of adjustment they find that they have adopted a truly wonderful little dog that wants nothing more than the touch of your hand, the sound of your voice, and the love of your heart.

Happy Hound Tails! Congratulations to Schatzi and Sergeant on finding their forever home this week!!

While these two didn't come to us together, they formed a special bond during their time in rescue and quickly became the best of friends. We are thrilled to share that they were adopted together and will continue their journey side by side.

Their amazing new mom and dad traveled all the way from the Raleigh area to meet them. After getting lost on their first attempt, they were so determined not to miss out on these sweet pups that they came back, stayed overnight, and made sure they had plenty of time to find us and bring their new family members home.

Thank you to this wonderful family for opening your hearts and giving Schatzi and Sergeant the loving forever home they deserve. We wish you many years of happiness, adventures, and unconditional love together!!

Happy hound tails Abby! Similar to many of our rescues, Abby needed time to adjust to her new home. Initially shy, Abby's daddy provided her with patience and understanding, allowing her to settle in at her own pace. Two weeks later, they are an inseparable bonded pair. ❤️🩷

***UPDATE ADOPTIONS PENDING**Happy Friday everyone! 🐾
We have 2 adorable 8-week-old purebred standard dachshund puppies (one boy and one girl) available for local foster-to-adopt homes! These sweet red dapple babies are very social, loving, and would do well with considerate children. ❤️
We also rescued their mom and dad (both purebred standard dachshunds, that weigh about 25 pounds each), they will be available at a later date after they complete their vetting and we get to know their personalities a little better.
Because their spay/neuter is included in the adoption fee through one of our vet partners in the Clover or Charlotte area, the puppies must be in local homes...we are located in York, SC!
The puppies went to the vet yesterday for their first set of vaccines and are currently being treated for coccidia for 7 days, otherwise they are extremely healthy. If they are still taking medication at the time of placement, we will send their meds home with them.
If you are interested in fostering to adopt one of these precious babies and you have an application on file, or are a past adopter, let us know. Serious/local homes only please. 🐶

Happy Hound Tails and Happy Mother’s Day! 🩷🐾
Congratulations to sweet Ruby, who was adopted today and now has a mom to call her very own!! After everything she has been through, this precious girl finally got the happy ending she deserves. There is no better Mother’s Day gift than the love of a rescue dog ❤️ Wishing Ruby and her new mom (and dad) a lifetime of happiness together! 🏡

P.S. A huge thank you to her foster mom, Alla, for taking the time on Mother’s Day to see Ruby off to her forever home and for capturing this beautiful memory for us all to cherish 📸

We received this local plea for help...meet Missy and Rusty ❤

Hello! My name is Madison and I am the practice manager at Newport Veterinary in Rock Hill. We are literally next door to Pet Village! We have two precious dachshunds whose owner passed away and the family is unable to care for them and are looking to re-home. They have been boarding with us for almost the entire month as the family figures things out. I figured I would help spread the word as a kennel is no place for them!

These two babies are bonded and will only be adopted together as a pair when they are ready. We have a few pups scheduled for dentals in front of these two, but as soon as we can get them in, they will be ready for their forever home 🏡

Also, If anyone would like to donate towards these two or any of our other dental surgeries coming up, we would be so grateful for the help. We are low on funds and even five to $10 adds up quickly 🙏 Here is the link to our donation page on our website: https://www.chapmansdox.com/donate

••• Adooted!!•••No more applications please +++Ruby has just been hanging out in her foster home patiently waiting for the right family to come along. She has been with her foster family for about a month now, and has really come out of her shell with her foster mom and her weens. These precious dogs are rescues and they all need time, and a lot of them have been through some type of trauma. Ruby was in a shelter in Virginia from October through February. It took that long to get legal custody. Ruby is still decompressing and really needs another dog in her forever home to help build her confidence, we believe she was originally one of 15 dogs. Please only apply if you are willing to love her unconditionally. She will come around, but it will take some time and patience. She is around 5 years old, and fully vetted, she is a beautiful soul, so sweet and loving, please someone give her a chance ❤

Our rescue is located in York, SC. Ruby is being fostered in the Charlotte area. Here is the link to our application: https://form.jotform.com/241745142308149
