Canine Cough (kennel cough) is making the rounds in the area. We have had several confirmed cases. Although we require the Bordetella vaccination, there are many different strains that are not covered, similar to the flu shot for humans. Just like in schools, proximity to other dogs can increase odds of catching it. Please do not bring your dogs if you hear coughing (sometimes it sounds like they have food or a treat caught in their throat). If you are unsure you can take them outside and do some quick sprints to see if it causes them to start coughing, you can also gently press on their throats. Dogs can be contagious before they present symptoms and it is an airborne contagion, so it can be difficult to contain even while maintaining an extremely clean environment.
