Some NAVHDA NA test prep for this youth handler and his pup. Life has been busy for this guy and time in the field (and water) has been difficult to find. He committed to a date, showed up, and we made sure he got the maximum out of his time here. He and his pup worked through each phase of the test and we made sure to give him test pointers and training tips along the way.

We’re really excited about these two! In our area, it’s rare to get a GSP owner who predominantly hunts waterfowl. However, he recently moved back to PA and wants to train his pup for upland as well. A versatile dog, our favorite! He looked good in the field during his first exposure to a chukar, and he loves the water. We liked a lot of what we saw during the evaluation. With some dedicated training, these two will go places together!

It’s thirsty Thursday!

You wouldn’t know it, but this guy drinking from the pond is actually quite an accomplishment. He’s here for some board and train and, until today, seemed petrified of the water. But we’ll work on that!

A component to the NAVHDA Utility Test is Retrieve of Dragged Game. This element is strictly a retrieving test and demonstrates the dog’s desire, cooperation, and obedience. A dead game bird is dragged to a location out of sight of the handler and left for the dog to find and retrieve. It is important that the dog will be feeling “all on its own” and out of
visual contact with the handler. The dog should find the game quickly, pick it up, and return eagerly to the handler.

We love when our merch makes it to far off (and interesting) places. These two items were spotted overlooking an alpine lake in Yoho National Park, Canada. Located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, the park is known for its dramatic landscapes, including towering peaks, glaciers, and numerous waterfalls. It features stunning turquoise lakes and offers hiking trails for all levels, from easy walks to challenging backcountry excursions. The park is home to diverse wildlife, including grizzly bears, black bears, moose, elk, and mountain goats.

Another breed that takes their water work seriously: the Large Munsterlander. In my opinion, they are like the Lab of the pointing dog world. If they see or smell water, they are in it. And no tippy-toeing around…they are full send!
