This girl went full send into the realm of a bird dog! When she arrived for her evaluation, she was timid and scared to enter our training room. But she got over her apprehensions quickly and left here a different dog. We are very excited to help her handler mold into her into a fantastic hunting companion.

This girl has been one of our favorite clients for several years….even though her owner never intended for her to be a hunting dog he has always been dedicated to her training. We saw good things in her during her initial evaluation, however she’s served the last few years as an amazing companion to her owners. Until now. We were extremely delighted to hear that it was time for this petite machine to do some bird work! She has an amazing prey drive, a great nose, desire, and doesn’t mind birds in her mouth…all good things for any gun dog. And she absolutely loves the water! I’m seeing a versatile gun dog in the making.

The trained retrieve with a young Vizsla.

We’ve said it many times before, and we’ll say it again. The trained retrieve is not for the faint of heart. Despite early and swift progression, this girl’s handler encountered a hurdle she just couldn’t get over. So we took this beauty in for a couple of days and got her over the hurdle. We sent her home and then had her come back for a full day of training today. And wow, this girl is driving! We have a couple things to address and need to polish that delivery, but all in all, I’m excited about this one!

I’m fairly certain training for a NAVHDA test isn’t anything this girl thought she’d be doing when she first came here. Initially, she was just looking to get her dogs exposed to birds and see if they had any innate ability. Her vizsla had never been on a bird in the first six years of his life until coming here for an evaluation last year. But he showed us there was in fact a bird dog in there. And look at them now!
