🐾 Brushing at Home Series – Part 3: Short-Haired Double-Coated Dogs 🐾

Think short-haired dogs don't need brushing? Think again! 😊

Breeds like Labrador Retrievers, French Bulldogs, Boxers, Pugs, Beagles, and many mixed breeds have a double coat that benefits from regular brushing to remove loose undercoat and keep their skin and coat healthy.

In this video, I'll demonstrate several tools that can help, including:
✨ A brush
✨ A comb
✨ A Furminator
✨ A Zoom Groom

Each tool has a different purpose, and using the right one can make a big difference in keeping your dog comfortable and reducing shedding around your home.

📌 A quick correction from the video: I accidentally said the Zoom Groom can be used in place of the brush and comb. What I meant to say is that the Zoom Groom is a great addition to your brushing routine—it doesn't replace brushing and combing. A brush helps loosen hair, and the comb checks that you've reached all the way to the skin. The Zoom Groom is wonderful for loosening and removing additional loose hair while giving your dog a gentle massage.

I hope these videos are helping you feel more confident caring for your dog's coat at home! If there's a breed or coat type you'd like me to cover next, let me know in the comments.

❤️ Because regular coat care isn't just about shedding—it's about keeping your dog comfortable and healthy between grooming appointments.

🐾 Brushing at Home Series – Part 2: Double-Coated Dogs 🐾

Does your dog have a double coat? Breeds like Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Huskies, Australian Shepherds, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and many mixed breeds have a soft undercoat that can easily become trapped if it isn't brushed out properly.

In this video, I'll show you why it's so important to use a comb after brushing. While a brush helps loosen hair and tangles, the comb is what tells you if you've reached all the way down to the skin. If the comb can't glide through easily, there's still undercoat or tangles that need more attention.

Keeping the undercoat free of buildup helps:
🐾 Prevent painful mats.
🐾 Improve airflow to the skin.
🐾 Reduce excess shedding.
🐾 Keep your dog more comfortable between grooming appointments.

A good rule of thumb: Brush first, then comb to check your work!

I hope this video helps you feel more confident caring for your dog's coat at home. If you have questions or would like me to cover a specific breed or coat type in a future video, leave a comment below!

Do you use both a brush AND a comb when grooming your dog at home?

Keeping up with brushing at home helps your dog stay comfortable, and mat-free between grooming visits.

✨ Remember: A brush and a comb work together as a team!

The Brush:
• Loosens hair
• Removes surface tangles
• Fluffs the coat

The Comb:
• Reaches all the way down to the skin
• Finds hidden tangles the brush may miss
• Checks your work to make sure the coat is truly tangle-free

A coat may look brushed on the surface, but tangles can still be hiding underneath. That's why the comb is the most important step!

Take a look at this diagram to see the areas that need extra attention. These spots are where mats commonly form and can quickly become uncomfortable for your dog.

A few minutes of brushing and combing several times a week can make a big difference in your dog's comfort and help maintain their coat between appointments.

Questions about brushing or the right tools for your dog's coat? We're happy to help! 🐶💕
