Some Labs enter our lives and change us in ways we never expected. 🐾 They teach us about loyalty, patience, happiness, and unconditional love. Even years later, the memories of their silly habits and loving presence can still make us smile. A truly special Lab leaves paw prints far beyond the heart. ❤️

Truth. A dog is the product of its environment. The key is starting with a good one, and put in the time, every day.

It was 8 years and 44 weeks ago (November 4, 2017) I flew the Bonanza into Greeley Colorado, and took a crew car out to KB Kennels. There is where I first met Kevin Eskam, Barbara Eskam and John Swindle. I was there to pick a female chocolate out of Lily and Wyatt litter. This is the one. Sierra turned 9 years old today. Our second dog, first female. She is very special to me. She’s produced some impressive dogs and now in retirement enjoys hunting, lounging in the house and laying on dad’s lap, not necessarily in that order! She’s a firecracker, but loyal and loving. Happy 9th Birthday CPR Da-Koda’s High Sierra.

Nature is amazing. For us, a miracle every time. 🐾💕🐾

A newborn Labrador enters the world almost completely shut off from it, and that is exactly how nature intended. 🐾

For the first two weeks of life a Lab puppy is blind and deaf. Its eyes are sealed shut, its ear canals are closed, and it navigates entirely through warmth, touch, and smell, rooting blindly toward its mother's body heat and milk. It cannot even regulate its own temperature yet, which is why the litter piles together in one warm heap. Nearly all it does is sleep and nurse, and that constant sleep is when the brain and body do their fastest building.

Around day 10 to 14 the eyes crack open, and by the third week sound floods in and the real world switches on. From there the change is dizzying, wobbly first steps, tiny play growls, and the opening of that famous socialization window that shapes who the dog becomes.

It is humbling to think the confident, bounding Lab you know began as a tiny creature that could only feel its way toward warmth. 🤎

At ten years and a month old, Koda is producing like an adolescent! Just under 2 BILLION viable s***m! Enough for 10 breedings (5 frozen). Hope the next collection for freezing is this bountiful!
