A new chapter for Scuba Sam's 🐾

While our physical location has now closed as we prepare for our move back to the UK, our passion for helping dogs live longer, healthier and more comfortable lives hasn't changed.

Over the last few years we've had the privilege of working with hundreds of incredible dogs and their families. We've learned so much along the way, and we'd love to continue sharing that knowledge.

This page isn't going anywhere. Instead, we'll be using it to share practical advice on canine wellness, mobility, exercise, weight management, nutrition and healthy ageing.

We'll also continue sharing resources, products and programmes that we genuinely trust and believe can help dogs thrive.

This treadmill has been a huge part of Scuba Sam’s and has helped countless dogs through post-op recovery, neurological rehab, conditioning, weight management and senior mobility support.

These treadmills are built to last when properly maintained. We recently spoke with another Hydro Physio owner whose treadmill is still running well after 15 years.

It’s with really heavy hearts that Sean and I share that Scuba Sam’s will unfortunately be closing its doors as we prepare for our move back to the UK over the coming weeks.

This business, our clients and your dogs have meant absolutely everything to us over the years, and making this decision has been incredibly difficult.

We are incredibly proud of what Scuba Sam’s became — from helping post-op dogs walk again, supporting senior dogs with comfort and mobility, working alongside veterinary practices, and building relationships with so many wonderful owners and their pets.

One thing that has been very important to us throughout this process is making sure our clients continue to have access to quality rehabilitation support and hydrotherapy care locally. Over the past 8 months we have been working closely alongside another facility, sharing techniques and knowledge around our approach to underwater treadmill work and hydrotherapy, and we feel confident recommending them moving forward for ongoing care.

We will share more details regarding this shortly, along with information about final appointments and next steps.

IVDD is another condition we see and hear people talking about a lot in the dog world ❤️

From both our experience working with these dogs, and from more recent studies, controlled exercises at home can play a really important role in helping support recovery and reduce the risk of further injury.

That said, we’ve always found the best results come from a multimodal approach — combining things like rehab therapy, laser therapy, guidance from a rehab professional, and appropriate exercises at home.

We quite often come across pet owners looking at alternative ways to treat their dog when dealing with ACL (knee) tears/injuries.

We are of the opinion that surgery is most likely the best option as we have seen that when surgery has been done well, the dog will recover quicker than the non-surgical route.

That said; we also believe not just one method solves a problem and we see more success with a multi-model approach.
