A little back story on PAYIN FOR IT.
In the fall of 2024, we started looking for a coming-two. We had a pretty strict budget, had a good idea of what we wanted, but were nonexact on pedigree.
We seriously considered no less than 100 horses between Facebook and the January Triangle sale. One after another, horses were eliminating themselves from the list of potentials rapidly: EPM, Strangles, West Nile, unsound, promising papers, but looks didn’t match up; all the things.
It was the end of February and we still hadn’t found the right one. Finally, we drove over to Cross Timbers, MO and looked at Willie; all 1100lbs and 14.3hh of him. He was priced over our budget.
We felt at peace with him and made an offer. Holly Hubert looked at us and said, “something told me you were going to offer that and I had it in my mind to take it”.
We got him home and went to work. He picked things up nicely. Then in August, he got a foot infection that took him out for three months. Combined, he’s essentially 5-6 months behind his cohorts, in show horse terms.
There’s been many times over the last two years where we needed to be reminded that God’s plans are better than ours, and we’re reminded of that every time we look at this horse.
Praise the Lord. Not because we had a good out in the herd, but because God cares enough about us to use seemingly small things we care about to remind us that His plans are best.
