Meet Shadow—a small dog with a big spirit and an even bigger personality 🌟

Shadow is a spirited Havanese mix who has come incredibly far since arriving in rescue. Once not potty trained, he’s now thriving with structure, consistency, and a predictable routine. He’s smart, responsive, and does best when his world feels calm, clear, and understood.

Let’s be honest about Shadow: he is a dog with boundaries, and he needs someone who will respect them. He may react if pushed past his comfort zone, but he is not unpredictable. In the right environment—with people who understand canine communication and honor his signals—Shadow has proven he can live peacefully and successfully. His foster home has seen zero aggression concerns over the past two months.

Shadow is looking for a calm, adult-only home where he can truly relax and be himself. He is not a fit for young children and will do best with a patient, dog-savvy adopter—ideally a single person or couple who appreciates structure, routine, and mutual respect.

When it comes to activity, Shadow surprises people—he loves to move. He enjoys running alongside a bike, playing fetch, and staying active. He also benefits greatly from doggy daycare a couple of times a week to help keep his energy balanced. Mental and physical stimulation are essential for him to thrive.

He can coexist with other dogs but prefers independence over constant social interaction. He’s more of a “do my own thing” kind of companion than a social butterfly.

Shadow is currently on Fluoxetine to help manage anxiety and should remain on it unless directed otherwise by a veterinarian. Grooming and vet visits can be stressful for him, and he may need extra support such as a muzzle or mild sedation in those situations.

Once the day slows down and the toys are put away, Shadow’s softer side shines through. He becomes a deeply affectionate little companion who loves nothing more than curling up close to his person and simply being together 🌙💛

Shadow isn’t the right match for everyone—but for the right adopter, he will be fiercely loyal, incredibly fun, and deeply loving in a way that truly feels special.

But don’t let the energy fool you—he’s also a professional snuggler and certified sidekick. Wherever you go, he goes. Sitting on the couch? He’s right there. Heading to bed? Expect a cuddle buddy (and maybe a burrow-under-the-blankets situation). Personal space is not really his thing, but love absolutely is.

This regal young man is now *available for adoption.* We are so excited for him to make his debut after such a long road to recovery. 💕 We can’t wait to see what forever brings for our sweet Max.

Thank you to everyone who has sent love, financial support and healing vibes to Max as he heals from his pelvis surgery. Max came to us from a rescue in Milwaukee. He was brought in after being hit by a car. He suffered a broken pelvis and many scrapes and bruises. With all the pain his sweet nature was still evident. We knew we had to save this little guy and get him on the road to recovery.

That was 6 weeks ago and Max has put that behind him. With lots of rest and love Max is doing amazing.

And what a love bug he is. He gets along great with the two resident pups. Loves to watch what goes on in the kitchen. He's got the home routine down including pottying outside. He enjoys stuffies and chew toys and keeps himself entertained while resting. To be honest his rest restriction is getting old for him. He's ready to move on and find his forever family. He's the perfect blend of fun and soft hugs. Could he be yours?
