Hello everyone,
With a strong Nor’easter approaching our area, please take extra precautions with your dogs this weekend.
A frightened dog can bolt through an open door, pull out of a collar, jump a fence or take off unexpectedly during a walk.
Please take a few extra precautions:
Keep dogs leashed at all times outdoors, even in fenced yards if they are anxious or easily startled.
Before opening an exterior door, know where your dog is and make sure they cannot bolt past you.
Check gates, fences and latches before the strongest winds arrive.
Make sure collars and harnesses fit securely. For dogs prone to slipping collars, consider using a properly fitted harness and a secondary connection.
Confirm that your dog's ID tag and microchip information are current.
During the worst of the storm, give your dog a quiet, secure room away from windows and exterior doors. Background television, music or white noise may help mask wind and storm sounds.
Take dogs outside for bathroom breaks on leash, even if you normally let them into the yard unattended.
When walking, keep a firm grip on the leash and avoid areas with falling branches, debris, flooding or heavy surf.
If your dog has severe storm anxiety, follow the plan you've previously discussed with your veterinarian.
Lastly please be safe and only drive when needed
