Happy Pride Month, Woodstock!

With the big parade and all of the festivities rolling through town this weekend, we wanted to make one thing clear:

Woodstock Animal Hospital is a safe space for everyone.

We don't care who you love, how you identify, or what pronouns you use—but loving animals and each other is non-negotiable. We believe kindness, compassion, and respect belong to everyone who walks through our doors.

And yes, we'd also like to formally apologize to every Bailey, Charlie, Max, Riley, Cooper, and Teddy we've incorrectly called "she" or "he" over the years. If there's any place that understands the importance of pronouns, it's a veterinary hospital that's been guessing pet genders from across the waiting room for 45 years.

Whether you're a longtime client, a brand-new pet parent, or just stopping by to admire the clinic cats, you're welcome here.

Just last week, we diagnosed a patient who tested negative last spring and is now positive. We knew this needed to be April’s focus (and promo)—it is Heartworm Awareness Month, after all.

Heartworm is a deadly disease that has long been associated with the southern United States, but we’re now seeing more cases locally—even in dogs that have never left the state.

It is spread by mosquitoes. When a mosquito bites an infected dog, it can pick up the disease and pass it along to the next.

Routine testing and prevention are far safer—and far more affordable—than treatment. Heartworm treatment is a long and involved process, often taking at least 120 days. It requires strict activity restriction (no dog park, no play dates), multiple veterinary visits, and daily medications. It’s not easy on pets—or their people.

Even if your pet isn’t due for screening for a few more months, there’s no downside to testing a little early. Early detection is always better than playing catch-up.

Give us a call to schedule an appointment. If we’ve seen your pup within the last 12 months, the screening can usually be done during a quick tech visit.

Dog park season is almost here. Make sure your pup is known for good manners — not generous parasite distribution. 🐾

For the month of March, we’re offering $10 off intestinal parasite screenings. Many intestinal parasites and their eggs can survive freezing temperatures in soil, yards, and even on sidewalks. Pets can pick them up anytime they’re outside and bring them home without showing any obvious signs.

Bring a fresh stool sample, and we’ll take care of the rest.

It’s unfortunate that we have to make this post. We care deeply about every patient and client, and especially about our incredibly generous community. This is a gentle reminder to please be cautious about where and to whom you donate, as we are unable to disclose whether any funds raised have been directed to our clinic.

We’re very happy to officially introduce our new front-desk assistants: Mac & Cheese.

Just before the holidays, as many of you know, we had to say goodbye to arguably the most well-known and loved cat in Woodstock—our client care specialist and Emile’s supervisor, Biscuit. She left a very large (and, for once, furless) space on the front desk and in our hearts. After a little time to adjust and learn the ropes, we’re happy to report that while far less spicy than Biscuit, Mac and Cheese are both just as loving, social, and committed to greeting every visitor.

If you walk through our doors and aren’t immediately met by a love-seeking orange paw stretched across the reception counter, don’t worry—you’ll soon hear the most impressively lifelike feline “herooooo?” drifting from the back, and one (or both) of them will promptly make their way up front to take your credit card with oversized paws, request belly rubs and head bumps, and, if you’re lucky, deliver a few gentle, affectionate love-nibbles to your fingers.

A big thank you to the Town Of Saugerties Animal Shelter—Mac & Cheese are everything we could have hoped for, and their sweet, social nature is a true reflection of the care they received there.
