When Tambourine first arrived at our shelter as a stray, he was heartbreakingly thin and terrified of the world around him. He spent his days cowering in the back of his kennel, trembling when people approached. On walks, he would hug the fence line, doing everything he could to make himself small and invisible.

But little by little, Tamby started to realize that people could be kind. With patient staff, dedicated volunteers, and now a loving foster home through Hearts For Paws rescue, we’ve watched him transform into a completely different dog. These days, Tamby is known for leaning in close, giving hugs, and soaking up every bit of affection he can get from the people he trusts.

At just 1.5 years old, Tamby is still learning that the world is a safe place. He’s a sensitive soul who forms deep bonds with his people, enjoys a good zoomie session, walks nicely on leash, and appreciates having a canine friend around to help boost his confidence. That being said, he can also do fine as the only pup in case someone is looking for a solo fur baby to spoil 🥹

His journey hasn’t been a straight line, and he’ll need an adopter willing to continue helping him build confidence. But the hardest part is already behind him. The scared dog who arrived at the shelter has shown us just how much love he has to give. Now he just needs someone willing to give him a forever home.

Hazel may not be a good protection dog but she still makes a great walking buddy!

She is a sweet, snorty girl who is friendly with people and other dogs. When she arrived at our shelter we noticed she had a dry eye condition — she is now on medication to make her eyes feel better.

As a frenchie, Hazel is more prone to health issues down the line. She needs an adopter who is willing and able to provide her with the lifelong care she deserves.

Cassie is a 17 lbs terrier mix who was found stray with a tiny companion we ended up naming Rue. Lucky little Rue was adopted this past weekend but that meant Cassie was left behind and is all alone in her kennel now 😔

This sweet 4-year-old girl is an angel who loves rolling over onto her back for belly rubs and has been friendly with other dogs.

She has cherry eye affecting her right eye but it is not affecting her quality of life. Even with corrective surgery, it can recur so Cassie is looking for an adopter who would love her just the way she is, cherry eye and all.

Princess is one of the lucky dogs who got a chance to leave the shelter and spend time in a foster home. Thanks to her time in a safe, quiet home we have gotten to know what a gem Princess truly is.

She’s calm, easygoing, dog-friendly, happy to join for errands or a trip to the gym, and perfectly content spending most of her day napping nearby.

This is one of the biggest gifts foster homes provide: they help dogs decompress and allow us to learn who they really are outside the shelter environment. Now Princess is ready for the next step: finding a forever home.

Thank you to Kendall and Buddy for helping this sweet girl shine. Email us at [email protected]/dogs if you’re interested in meeting Princess!

It was a watchful and devoted volunteer that noticed Bergamot showing telltale signs of bloat. He went into emergency surgery to save his life, followed by weeks of recovery in a foster home. Fortunately, Bergamot has made a full recovery and is more ready than ever for a forever home!

Bergamot (affectionately called “Bergie” by his fan club) was first found stray last November. Since then, he was adopted twice but returned for 1) chasing the cats and 2) guarding his food around the other dog 🥺 These behaviors are likely rooted in the survival skills he developed while living as a stray and can be easily managed in the right home.

Currently in foster, Bergie has proven to be the easiest house guest. While he is happy to go on long walks with you (if that’s what you want) he’s just as happy chilling and lounging around at home. As an older shepherd at around 6-7 years old, Bergie would make an excellent companion for someone looking for a calm, emotionally intelligent soul. He is also crate trained and house trained, having zero issue settling into home life as soon as he scored a foster.

Don’t miss out on Bergie! Email [email protected] to arrange a showing with this beautiful boy.

Dante was just skin and bones when he was picked up as a stray. Someone did this to him. It took time for him to heal but eventually we got his weight up (more than DOUBLE his intake weight).

It was clear from the start that Dante is a very smart boy. It’s extra hard for the smart ones to be cooped up in a shelter 🥺 He began to break down and we knew he needed extra help if he was going to stand a chance at finding a forever home.

A small team of devoted volunteers banded together to help Dante. Taking turns day tripping and fostering him, this gave Dante the chance to decompress away from the shelter and show his true potential.

Dante recently completed a Board & Train program where he worked on some basic skills and neutrality. His trainer reports that he is made great progress and is a social, confident dog! He’s been great playing with other dogs as well as hanging out with them in people’s homes. He can get overly excited about meeting a dog but it’s all because of his social butterfly tendencies 😅

This gorgeous 79 lbs German Shepherd mix (specifically 58% shepherd based on his Wisdom Panel results) is looking for a loving home with a confident and experienced handler who will continue building upon Dante’s great training foundation. He will make a lucky someone the most loyal and lovable companion.

Email [email protected] to schedule a showing with Dante. He is currently being fostered in Woodland, CA.
