๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Fourth of July Pet Safety Tips ๐Ÿพ

The Fourth of July is a fun holiday for people, but it can be one of the most stressful days of the year for our pets. Help keep your furry family members safe with these simple tips:

๐ŸŽ† Keep pets indoors. Fireworks can frighten even the calmest pets, causing them to panic and run away.

๐Ÿก Create a safe space. Provide a quiet room with their favorite bed, toys, and calming music or television to help reduce anxiety.

๐Ÿ†” Check ID tags and microchips. Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with current identification, and verify that your contact information is up to date.

๐Ÿšช Keep doors and gates secure. Guests coming and going can create opportunities for pets to slip outside.

๐Ÿ” Avoid sharing holiday foods. Fatty foods, bones, chocolate, onions, grapes, raisins, alcohol, and xylitol-containing products can all be dangerous to pets.

๐ŸŽ‡ Keep fireworks away from pets. Sparklers, fireworks, and glow sticks can cause burns or serious illness if chewed or ingested.

๐Ÿ’Š Talk to your veterinarian ahead of time. If your pet has a history of anxiety during fireworks, ask about medications or calming options before the holiday.

๐Ÿพ Exercise before the festivities. A long walk or play session earlier in the day can help your pet relax later.

If your pet experiences an emergency during the holiday, seek veterinary care immediately.

From all of us at Paws & Claws Veterinary Hospital, we wish you and your pets a safe, happy, and stress-free Fourth of July! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

As you celebrate with family and friends this Independence Day, remember that many holiday foods can be dangerous for our furry companions.

๐Ÿšซ Keep These Foods Away from Pets:

๐ŸŒญ Hot Dogs & Fatty Meats
Can cause stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea, and even pancreatitis.

๐Ÿ– Cooked Bones
Can splinter and cause choking, intestinal blockage, or internal injuries.

๐Ÿง… Onions & Garlic
Toxic to dogs and cats and can damage red blood cells.

๐ŸŒฝ Corn Cobs
Can cause serious intestinal blockages if swallowed.

๐Ÿซ Chocolate Desserts
Chocolate is toxic to pets and can cause serious illness.

๐Ÿ‡ Grapes & Raisins
Even small amounts can lead to kidney failure in dogs.

Can cause dangerous drops in blood sugar, blood pressure, and body temperature.

๐Ÿช Sugar-Free Treats
Many contain xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs.

๐Ÿฅ‘ Avocados
May cause stomach upset and digestive issues.

๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿพ Fourth of July Pet Safety Tips ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ†

While fireworks are fun for people, they can be frightening and even dangerous for our pets. As we celebrate Independence Day, let's help keep our furry family members safe and comfortable.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Fireworks Safety Tips:

๐Ÿ  Keep pets indoors in a secure, comfortable area.

๐ŸŽต Turn on a TV, fan, or calming music to help mask the noise from fireworks.

๐Ÿฆด Provide favorite toys, treats, or a cozy hiding spot.

๐Ÿšช Make sure all doors, gates, and windows are secure. Many pets become frightened and attempt to escape during fireworks.

๐Ÿท๏ธ Verify that your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date.

๐Ÿšซ Do not bring pets to fireworks displays. The loud noises, crowds, and unfamiliar environment can be overwhelming.

โš ๏ธ Watch for signs of anxiety:

Excessive panting
Pacing
Trembling
Hiding
Excessive vocalization

If your pet has a history of severe noise anxiety, contact your veterinarian before the holiday to discuss calming options.

From all of us at Paws & Claws Veterinary Hospital, we wish you, your family, and your pets a safe and happy Fourth of July! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ Hot Cars Can Be Deadly for Pets ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that leaving your pet in a parked carโ€”even for just a few minutesโ€”can quickly become life-threatening.

๐Ÿš— On a 75ยฐF day, the temperature inside a vehicle can climb above 100ยฐF in minutes.

Signs of heatstroke include:
๐Ÿถ Excessive panting
๐Ÿถ Drooling
๐Ÿถ Bright red gums
๐Ÿถ Weakness or collapse
๐Ÿถ Vomiting or diarrhea
๐Ÿถ Seizures

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke:
โ„๏ธ Move them to a cool area immediately
๐Ÿ’ง Offer small amounts of water
๐Ÿ“ž Seek veterinary care right away (818) 346-7387

The safest choice is to leave your pet at home when running errands. Even with the windows cracked, vehicles can heat up rapidly and become dangerous.

๐Ÿพ Heat Stroke Awareness for Pets โ˜€๏ธ

As temperatures rise, itโ€™s important to remember that pets can overheat much faster than people. Heat stroke can happen quickly and can become life-threatening if not treated right away.

๐Ÿšซ Never leave your pet in a parked car โ€” even on a mild day. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously in just minutes.

โš ๏ธ Signs of heat stroke in pets may include:

Excessive panting

Drooling

Lethargy or weakness

Vomiting or diarrhea

Bright red gums

Difficulty breathing

๐Ÿ’ง Help keep your pets safe:
โœ” Provide plenty of fresh water
โœ” Ensure access to shade
โœ” Avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day
โœ” Walk pets early in the morning or later in the evening

If you suspect your pet is experiencing heat stroke, seek veterinary care immediately.

At Paws & Claws Veterinary Hospital, we are here to help keep your pets safe and healthy all summer long.

๐Ÿพ Warm Weather Reminder for Pet Owners ๐Ÿพ

As the weather starts getting warmer, please be cautious when leaving your pets in the car. Even on mild days, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rise very quickly and become dangerous for your pet.

Cracking the windows or parking in the shade does not prevent the temperature from increasing.

If you need to run errands, itโ€™s safest to leave your pets at home where they can stay cool and comfortable.

At Paws & Claws Veterinary Hospital, your petโ€™s safety is always our priority.
