If Rabies is 100% preventable, why do we still need World Rabies Day?
Did you know that bats and skunks are the top carriers of rabies in Minnesota? Rabies may be an uncommon occurrence in Minnesota because of high vaccination rates in our pets, but it is still present in the wild life around us. Other areas of the world domesticated animals are unvaccinated due to lack of resources. Why is this concerning? An unvaccinated dog could become rabid and bite the humans that live around it. Rabies is 99% fatal in every human that gets infected. World Rabies Day helps bring awareness to the public health concern Rabies is in communities around the world.
