Spring is here and Bobcat Fever is about to break loose. Hundreds of cats in our area will die this season if they are bit by the Lone Star tick that has a white dot on its back. Bobcat Fever progresses quickly and affected cats can die within 2-3 days without treatment. Even with aggressive treatment, many affected cats don’t survive. The best strategy is prevention.
🕷 Keep your cat indoors. Keep in mind that other animals, cats, dogs and even humans can bring ticks indoors.
🕷 Outdoor or Indoor/Outdoor roaming cats need prevention. Any cat that roams is highly likely to pick up ticks, no matter the neighborhood or area.
Protect Your Yard
🕷 Maintain Your Lawn: Mow your grass regularly and remove yard debris, as ticks often thrive in long grass and leaf litter.
🕷 Create Barriers: Create a barrier between your yard and wooded areas by using mulch, wood chips, or gravel.
🕷 Check for Ticks: Regularly check yourself and your pets for ticks and remove them promptly. The longer a tick is attached, the more opportunity it has to transfer the illness, or to jump off and get on other animals.
