Alright as promised I am ready to give some updates on the Big E. This is my man Genesis and yes I know he looks ridiculous. This was the costume contest portion of the performance classes. Genesis placed 2nd out of 3. I chose our theme to be a “beach/pool” day. I did not make anything because we all know my time is split In like a hundred different ways so there was no way I was going to sew or paint anything like last year.

Last year Genesis was an ambulance. If anyone remembers he wore a box I hand painted and put lights on. Had I known this judge really liked hand made stuff maybe I would have brought the ambulance and stuck a different alpaca in it haha. But nonetheless Genesis was a good sport. I may or may not have been kicked in the eye while trying to get the arm floaties on his feet. When the judge asked what made me come up with this idea I was aiming for a chuckle from him and said “the beach day vacation I never got because it’s impossible to take vacations when owning a farm” 😆😭. I’m not sure he thought it was as amusing as I did. I looked even more ridiculous than Genesis did, but the Big E is all about having fun while showcasing your alpacas.

We are going to be parting with Genesis as he is not a breeding male for us. He is fully halter trained, trained around children. Train in obstacles and public relations and would make a great addition for anyone looking for a family friendly alpaca or a 4H project. He is registered. He’s such a chill guy! If interested please reach out!

Baby Rae is just a fabulous little girl! She might cause me to grow my first grey hair but it will be worth it. Yesterday when I came home from work I caught her “nursing” on auntie llama Crow. After baby Rae was born Crow had shown high interest in her and kept trying to babynap her from Belle. Honestly, I don’t think Belle minds sharing baby Rae with Crow. I think the two of them are going to be Co-Parenting this little one. I also wouldn’t be upset if baby Rae does cause Crow to come into milk and actually provide for her. It would certainly lighten the mental load here and allow her multiple avenues to be fed. They say fed is best so whatever works for these ladies I’ll be happy with it. Baby Rae hates the bottle, she will drink from the miracle ni**le and syringe, but a bottle… forget about it. So for now I’m going to keep observing Crow’s behavior with baby Rae.

I think we’re due for a frost this Saturday into Sunday so I hate to say it but I think this will be our last week for cut dahlias! Please if you haven’t stopped by the farm-stand go help yourself to the choice is yours for 10 stems for $5. Take advantage of the end of the year sale because after Saturday our farm-stand is only going to have Pickles & Spiced Pear Jam! I may have a few dahlia tubers for sale as well. I’ll put up in the cooler so if you’re interested in growing your own I’ll have some available!

So after a few days of a social media break I just want to say thank you to everyone for your kind words. We miss Satin Mist dearly. She was going to be a foundation staple in our herd and I’m definitely heartbroken. In honor of her memory I am doing a dahlia sale of 10 stems for $5 (just please leave my vases). It’s the end of the season and I’m emotionally and physically spent after this week. I don’t have the mental capacity to be creative and make vases for all to enjoy. So I would love for you guys to pick out for favorite 10 and make yourself a lovely little bouquet. This week has been hard and they say bad things always happen in threes. I am hoping we are done.
Baby Rae is now being supplemented with a few bottles a day now as we think Belle’s milk has either dried up or she’s producing way less. Rae is a spunky little girl and we have officially merged the two of them in the herd. She loves to get her aunties all worked up and frolicking with her in her antics. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!

I know everyone’s been waiting for an update from the Big E for the alpaca show this past weekend. Unfortunately, yesterday’s turn of events prevented me from being able to put my thoughts together to give a detailed update. I had to make the difficult decision late last night to put our beautiful girl Satin Mist to rest. Mentally the decision was easy there was no other choice, emotionally it’s hard because we bond with these animals, we see the future and the potential they bring to the farm. Again, I can’t thank Roxbury Animal Hospital for being there for me every step of the way yesterday and on the overnight. This was not the outcome we wanted but she is resting easy. Your herd misses you and your human family misses you. I knew deep down when I went out last night to check on her and Bear was freaking out every time I touched her it was time. Dogs are amazing creatures and he hasn’t been wrong yet.

Right now I just need time to process and time to grieve this tragic loss. My heart is hurting and sad knowing next fall she would have been frolicking around the pastures with her little one at her side.

I’m in shock! Little miss Opal’s fleece won 4 blue ribbons! She got a fleece score of 78/100! 🥹 so humbled but so proud and so honored we are blessed to raise her! She might have been the only one in her category, however she took the highest score for the fleece category!

Big E bound! Hopefully we didn’t forget the alpacas… 😆 just a little Belle & baby Rae to brighten everyone’s day! She’s learning to nibble on hay and pasture! Well check in with everyone later!

Well little Miss Rae had her legs evaluated today and the splints are helping! Such fantastic news. Her right leg was looking near perfect. But the left leg had just a slight angular shape to it. We opted once the left leg splint was on that we were better safe than sorry and just to have that right leg re-splinted. In 2 weeks we will take them off and see how those little legs are doing and hopefully she won’t need them back on! Belle and Rae enjoyed the afternoon grazing with the herd! Sorry the pictures are super fuzzy!

Overall we had a great herd health evaluation today. Starrie was cleared to join the crew for the Big E (yes iykyk she’s terrible at walking on a lead… WE KNOW). But we like the amusement she brings when she protests to walk or get in the ring. I also love the feedback on her as she matures so we can make smart breeding decisions. She’s been bred twice to an outside breeding and neither time stuck. I guess like humans she had preferences and Archie isn’t it. I am SUPER disappointed as I want nothing more than to cross a Skyhawk offspring with a .38 Special offspring. So we will transfer the breeding to Opal’s mom Pearl and look forward to what that will produce since the breeding is already paid for. Starrie will be bred to one of our own herdsires incase it takes a couple tries.

Opal was vet cleared for the Alpaca SHOWTACULAR 2026 show in Syracuse. Now if anyone knows this is a huge deal for our little farm. This is an official Alpaca Owners Association show and we have never done one before. I’m absolutely terrified and nervous all in the same breath. For me it’s not about winning but to get out of my comfort zone, network and meet and learn from amazing alpaca owners. Some who I follow on Facebook and have never met in person. Some of them are idols that we look up to and some we love to window shop at the gorgeous alpacas they breed. I’m very eager to see how little Miss Opal will do and we hope her breeder is proud of the little lady she is becoming!

That’s all for now. I know it’s a long post and a lot to catch up on. But tomorrow we’ll be MIA likely as we clean the ambulance, pack and get ready for the Big E this weekend! I’m excited to share alpaca showing with our little guy!

Good afternoon! I don’t have much of an update on baby Rae. Her weight gain seems to be about the same. Maybe that’s just her? But I’m still very much under the weather and now the Mister might be getting sick too. 😣 I truly hope not as we both tag team the Big E weekend. I also may have told the small child we were going to an alpaca fair next weekend and now he can’t stop talking about it. He keeps saying momma hold alpaca or talking about Opal. I think he might have thought we were going today 😬.

There’s still so much to do to prep for the Big E. Starrie needs a CVI, herd health, scrubbing the inside of the ambulance from top to bottom so we can camp in it, pack & load the ambulance, prep food for the weekend, and Opal needs her CVI redone for the Syracuse show. I’m sadly overwhelmed especially since being sick has really put a damper on things. Well here’s some more cute silkie pics I grabbed this morning with the little guy. A black, a splash & a frizzle splash. All three are suspect roos. 😂 which has been the name of the game this year from hatching! The paint might actually be a suspect pullet!

I know everyone’s waiting for an update on Baby Rae. Weight gain has been very slow so that is concerning. We have herd health Wednesday so it’s definitely a topic of discussion with the vet. Both myself and the little man are quite under the weather so farm chores were just to get the basic necessities done as I feel like I got run over by a bus. The shivers and body pain and aches have left me pretty immobile at times. I hope this passes soon as next weekend is the weekend we’ve been looking forward to! The Big E! I will be showing 4 alpacas and I’m excited to catch up with some alpaca owner friends! We just need to kick this sickness in the butt. But I did manage to grab pictures of one of my potentials for next year to show for silkies! I also did grab some pictures of our little Miss Rae Friday before the storm rolled in.
