Purple Pups GSD I am an ethical breeder of German Shepherd puppies in Woodbridge, VA. I trained dogs for about 12 years and am ready for a new adventure.

At the moment (while my GSD puppies grow up) I am helping another breeder with her puppies, which means that I whelp and raise her puppies until they are 8 weeks old. Yesterday it was pineapple. Today they discovered HONEYDEW. 🍈😂

Apparently Tug, Nita & Koda have decided they're little fruit connoisseurs because they were THRILLED when they realized I had another new treat for them.

This time I cut the honeydew into much smaller pieces, which meant we could get in quite a few repetitions without giving them too much fruit.

And I was really happy with what I saw. ❤️

I'm still working on the same simple lesson: if you really want something, sitting politely and waiting for a few seconds works much better than jumping for it.

I'm not repeatedly telling them to sit. I want them to begin figuring out for themselves what behavior gets them what they want.

And all three are learning at their own pace.

🖤 Tug was my little superstar today. I hadn't even gotten over there with the fruit yet and he was already sitting! He also did the best job holding that sit and waiting patiently.

🩷 Nita knows exactly what she's supposed to do. She sits VERY quickly. Holding it is another story. 😂 That honeydew is just sooooo close! She isn't biting at my hand, but the temptation to jump up and try to get it NOW is still very real.

💚 Koda was sitting quickly too. He tended to give me one hopeful jump and then settle down, hold his sit and wait. I was especially happy to see him getting gentler about taking the honeydew from my hand.

The video shows each puppy's first attempt and last attempt, so watch closely and see if you notice the changes. 👀

This is also why I've been enjoying the extra time I'm getting with these three. As the litter has gotten smaller, I have more opportunities to work individually with Tug, Nita & Koda and see more and more of their individual personalities. ❤️

They came for the pineapple. 🍍 They accidentally practiced good manners. 😂

Tug, Nita & Koda tried pineapple for the first time today, and I think it's safe to say we have three pineapple fans. 😂🍍

But I decided to turn their taste test into a little learning opportunity.

I'm working on teaching the puppies that when they really, REALLY want something, they don't need to jump on me, grab at my hands, or try to take it.

Instead, they can simply sit politely and wait.

And I don't tell them to sit.

That's actually the part I want them to figure out.

I want sitting politely to start becoming a habit when they want something from me - not something they only do because they heard the word “sit.”

So each puppy got three tries.

Try #1?

Well... 😂

Let's just say the pineapple was VERY exciting.

But I waited them out and gave them the opportunity to figure out what worked.

Then we tried again.

By Try #3, they were already starting to understand. ❤️

I shortened the video down to their first and third attempts so you can see the difference for yourself.

These little everyday lessons are some of my favorite parts of raising puppies. It doesn't always need to look like a formal training session.

Sometimes the lesson happens because you happen to have a piece of pineapple in your hand. 😂🍍

Pineapple was the treat.

Polite manners were the lesson. ❤️🐾

And then there were three… ❤️🐾

After all of our big goodbyes, these are the three Brother Bear babies still here with us - Tug, Nita & Koda.

And today my husband discovered that apparently you don't need an expensive puppy toy when you have… a branch with some leaves on it. 😂🌿

He started moving it around for them, and that was it.

Best. Game. Ever.

All three were following him around, trying to grab it and having an absolute blast together. 😂

It's funny how the simplest things can entertain puppies the longest.

But watching this video also feels a little different now. For so many weeks, there were eight little Brother Bear puppies running around here.

Now there are three.

So I'm soaking up these silly little moments with Tug, Nita, and Koda while they're all still together. ❤️

What a day.
Tuke went home with his family this morning, and this afternoon it was Rutt's turn. ❤️
Rutt met his new dad, and another one of my Brother Bear babies headed off to begin his next adventure.

His family is still thinking about what they would like to call him, so for now, he's still our Rutt. 🥰 I'll let everyone know if they decide on a new name.

It's hard to believe how quickly this part happens.

This morning, there were five Brother Bear puppies still here with me.

Tonight, there are three. 🥹

After spending so many weeks caring for all eight of these babies every single day, the house is changing very quickly. It's bittersweet watching them leave, but seeing each puppy with the person who has been waiting to take them home makes these goodbyes pretty special. ❤️

Have the BEST life, sweet Rutt. I'm so happy for you and your new family. 🐾❤️

This morning it was Tuke's turn. 🥹

Another one of my Brother Bear babies has officially left the nest and headed home with his new family.

It's hard to believe this is the same little boy we've watched grow over the past 11 weeks. From Wednesday Weigh-Ins to playing with his littermates to his adventures in the puppy pool - Tuke has given me plenty of moments to smile about. 😂❤️

And now he's off to start a whole new adventure.

His family hasn't 100% settled on his new name yet, so for now he's still Tuke. As soon as they decide, I'll let everyone know!

First there were eight.

Then Blaze went home.
Then Tanana.
Then Innoko.
And today, Tuke.

And then there were four. 🐾

The puppy yard is getting quieter awfully fast around here. ❤️ It's such a strange mix of emotions watching them leave. I miss each one, but this is what all those weeks of raising, loving, teaching, cleaning, feeding, worrying, laughing and probably losing a little sleep were leading up to.

Now it's his family's turn to make memories with him.

And then there were five… ❤️🐾

Today we said goodbye to another Brother Bear baby.

Sweet Innoko has officially gone home with her new family! 🥹❤️

And this time, there won't be a new name for me to learn - they're keeping her name Innoko! I have to admit, that makes me smile. She's been Innoko since the beginning, and now she'll get to carry her Brother Bear name right into this next chapter of her life.

It feels like these goodbyes are coming faster and faster now.

First there were eight.

Then Blaze went home.
Then Tanana.
And now Innoko.

And then there were five.

It's always bittersweet watching another puppy leave, but this is exactly what we've been working toward for the last 11 weeks - raising these babies and then watching them head off to begin their lives with their families. ❤️

Have the very best life, sweet Innoko. I'll miss that little face around here, and I hope I get to watch you grow from afar. 🥹🐾

And to Innoko's family: welcome to the Arista's Journey family. ❤️

The Brother Bear babies are 77 days old today, and our Wednesday Weigh-In looks a little different this week. ❤️

Blaze (formerly Kenai) is already home with his family, and now Tanana has officially joined her forever family too! 🥹💜

That means I had six wiggly puppies left to get onto the scale today:

🖤 Tug - 18 lbs. 7.8 oz.
🩷 Nita - 16 lbs. 14.0 oz.
💗 Innoko - 16 lbs. 3.3 oz.
💙 Rutt - 18 lbs. 5.4 oz.
🩶 Tuke - 16 lbs. 12.1 oz.
💚 Koda - 16 lbs. 7.5 oz.

And Tug is still hanging onto the heavyweight title this week at 18 lbs. 7.8 oz.! 🏆😂

We're also reaching the point where their weekly weight gains aren't nearly as dramatic as they were when they were tiny. It's another reminder of just how quickly these babies are growing up.

And seeing two of the eight Brother Bear puppies already pictured with their families makes this week's update especially bittersweet. ❤️

I'm going to miss Tanana, but look at that family photo. 🥹 I think she has plenty of people ready to love her.

I think this may also be our last official Wednesday Weigh-In for the Brother Bear litter. 🥹

When I started these weekly updates, I was weighing eight tiny newborn puppies and watching those numbers climb every single week. Now they're 11 weeks old, their rapid week-to-week growth is beginning to slow, and one by one they're heading off to their families.

It's definitely bittersweet. ❤️ The Wednesday Weigh-Ins may be coming to an end, but I'm certainly not done sharing these babies while they're still here with me!

Anybody else having one of THOSE rainy days? ☔

It has been raining here all day, and apparently the puppies are feeling about as motivated as I am. 😂

Every time they go outside, they take care of business…and that's about it.

Normally there's exploring to do, toys to investigate, somebody to chase, somebody else to tackle, and all sorts of puppy business that apparently requires their immediate attention.

Today?

They mostly just sit there and watch the rain.

A couple of them did manage to start playing, and eventually another puppy joined in - but even that burst of enthusiasm didn't last very long. 😂

After Tanana went home with her new family, these are the six Brother Bear puppies still here with me.

And while I love sharing their adventures, training, milestones, and individual personalities, this is part of raising puppies too.

Some days are exciting.

Some days are messy.

And some days everybody looks outside and collectively decides…

“Nope. Lazy day.” ☔😂

And then there were six… 💜

Look who met her forever family today.

Tanana went home!

Yesterday I shared a little more about my adventure girl - the puppy who always seems to be looking for the next fun thing to do, who apparently thought she could dig her way through the bottom of the puppy pool, and who surprised me by being the first one in this litter to figure out how to play fetch.

Today she started her biggest adventure yet.

And judging from these smiles, I think there are a couple of kids who are pretty excited about it too. ❤️

Going-home days are always bittersweet for me.

I spend weeks caring for these babies, watching them grow and learning all the little things that make each one different. And then the day comes when I hand one of them to their new family and watch them walk away.

That's what all those weeks were leading up to.

But boy, does the house feel a little different afterward.

First Kenai - now Blaze - went home.

Today it was Tanana.

And then there were six.

Have the very best life, sweet girl. 💜 Go have all those adventures you've been looking for.

To Tanana's new family: thank you for choosing one of my babies to become part of yours. I hope you'll keep me updated, because I'm pretty sure this little girl is going to give you plenty of stories to tell. 😂❤️

Meet Tanana. 💜

If you’ve been following along as I introduce this litter individually, today you get to meet my little adventure girl.

Tanana loves having something to do.

Give her a toy to play with, something new to investigate, or a pool that she apparently believes she can dig straight through to her next adventure, and she’s all in. 😂

But she has also started doing something that makes her stand out from her littermates.

Tanana plays fetch.

All of the puppies will happily chase a ball when I throw it. Tanana is the one who has figured out that if she picks it up and brings it back to me, I’ll throw it again.

She usually gives me five or six retrieves before her puppy brain discovers something else that needs investigating, but I love seeing that interaction with me already developing.

This is why I share videos like these.

When you're considering adding a German Shepherd puppy to your family, I think you should get to see more than a posed photograph. I want you to watch these puppies play, explore, interact with each other, and begin showing us who they are.
