🐾❤️ SO MANY NEW FRIENDS TODAY!

I took all eight puppies to Stonebridge, our local outdoor shopping center, for another socialization adventure.

We stayed for about an hour. I put a blanket down, set their puppy playpen up on top of it, and gave the puppies their own contained space while they experienced all the activity happening around them.

And it didn't take long before people discovered there were eight German Shepherd puppies waiting to say hello. 😂❤️

So many people stopped to visit!

The puppies were petted, loved on and introduced to all kinds of new people. One of my favorite parts was how many children they got to meet today.

That's such a valuable experience for these little guys. Children can move differently, sound different and interact differently than adults, so I love having opportunities for the puppies to have positive experiences meeting them.

They also got to take in all the sights, sounds, voices and general activity of being somewhere completely different from home.

And they did wonderfully. ❤️

For me, socialization isn't about throwing puppies into overwhelming situations. It's about giving them positive, manageable opportunities to experience more of the world while they're young.

Today was definitely one of those opportunities.

And judging from all the people who stopped to visit, I don't think the puppies were the only ones who had a good time. 😂🐾

❤️🐾 Remember yesterday's first car ride? This is where we were going!

I had a wonderful opportunity to give all eight puppies another new socialization experience.

We set up a clean blanket outside under a pavilion and enclosed the area with fencing so the puppies could play and interact without being on the public ground.

Then the visitors started coming. ❤️

The puppies met one new person after another. They were held, cuddled, petted and loved on, while also getting to experience new voices, new smells, different people and a completely different environment from home.

This is one of the things I really enjoy about raising puppies.

Good socialization isn't just about taking puppies somewhere new. I want to give them positive, manageable experiences and let them learn that new people and new situations can be pretty wonderful.

And these little guys seemed to agree. 😂

They played. They explored. They got LOTS of attention.

And eventually, some of them became so comfortable that they simply fell asleep in people's arms. 🥹❤️

Yesterday's 30-minute first car ride got them there - and now you know what was waiting at the other end.

A whole lot of new friends and puppy cuddles.

I'd call that a successful puppy outing. 🐾

🚗🐾 FIRST CAR RIDE!

Today was another first for the puppies - their very first ride in the car.

I expected at least a little complaining when we started moving, and there was. 😂 But when I went back and checked the video, I realized something that surprised even me:

It only lasted about 15 seconds.

After that, they settled down and just rode.

And this wasn't a two-minute practice trip around the neighborhood. We drove for about 30 minutes, and after our visit they had another 30-minute ride home.

They did really, really well. ❤️

I've already spent time helping the puppies become comfortable with their kennels, so the kennel itself wasn't completely new. This was the next experience - being in those kennels while the vehicle was moving and taking an actual trip.

Little experiences like this matter to me. I want my puppies to have opportunities to experience new sights, sounds, people, places and situations while they're still here with me.

Now there's just one thing I haven't told you…

Where were all eight puppies going on their very first road trip? 👀

🐾 Weekly weigh-in time for the Brother Bear litter! ⚖️

Well, we have a new heavyweight this week! 😂

Tug is officially the biggest puppy in the litter right now at 11 lbs. 15 oz. He is just ONE ounce shy of 12 pounds!

And our smallest puppy, Koda, is already 10 lbs. 12.8 oz. That means every single puppy in this litter is now over 10 pounds. ❤️

Here are this week's weights:

🐾 Tug: 11 lbs. 15 oz.
🐾 Rutt: 11 lbs. 10.1 oz.
🐾 Nita: 11 lbs. 2.7 oz.
🐾 Kenai: 11 lbs. 2.5 oz.
🐾 Tanana: 11 lbs. 2.3 oz.
🐾 Tuke: 10 lbs. 14.6 oz.
🐾 Innoko: 10 lbs. 13 oz.
🐾 Koda: 10 lbs. 12.8 oz.

There's only a little over a pound separating the largest and smallest puppy right now, and several of them are incredibly close in weight.

These weekly weigh-ins are one of the ways I keep track of how each puppy is growing. And at this age, they're definitely getting harder to convince that sitting still on a scale is a reasonable activity. 😂

Afterward, though? Apparently being weighed is exhausting work. Just look at those sleepy babies. 🥰

I love being able to document these little milestones because they grow SO quickly. One week rolls into the next, and suddenly the tiny babies I was holding not long ago are 10- and 11-pound puppies running, playing, exploring and developing their own personalities.

🍍 What's for lunch, puppies?

Today's new food for the Brother Bear litter was pineapple!

The puppies are eating a commercial complete puppy diet raw food, and I've been introducing one new food at a time alongside it.

When I introduce something new, I also pay attention afterward to their stools. I want to see how their stomachs handled the new addition rather than simply assuming that because they loved eating it, everything was fine.

And these puppies definitely loved eating. 😂

I swear, no matter how much food I offer these little guys, they always act like I haven't fed them in DAYS.

They finished absolutely everything.

Then I showed their dishes after they were done. I hadn't washed them yet, but you'd hardly know it. Apparently I have eight furry little pre-wash cycles. 😂🐾

But today's video doesn't end with lunch.

We also have a water update! 💦

Innoko gets right into the water this time. She walks around, splashes a little and then decides she's had enough and jumps out to go play again.

I love watching these little changes as the puppies grow. Something that gets cautiously investigated one day can become completely ordinary a little later.

That's part of the fun of documenting this litter - you get to watch it happen right along with me. ❤️

🫧 BUBBLES! 🫧

Today's new experience for the Brother Bear litter was a fun one - puppy-safe, bacon-scented bubbles. 😂

Most of the puppies were immediately interested. A couple weren't quite convinced at first and preferred to watch what everyone else was doing. But eventually, even they got up and joined in.

And then... the bubble machine quit after about a minute and a half. 🤦‍♀️

So our great bubble adventure was shorter than planned, but the puppies certainly enjoyed it while it lasted!

One of my favorite parts of raising a litter is watching how differently each puppy responds to something they've never experienced before. Some jump right in. Some investigate carefully. Some watch their siblings first and then decide, Okay, I guess I'll check this out too.

These little experiences give me another opportunity to watch the puppies grow, explore and show me more of who they are.

The Brother Bear litter is growing up quickly. ❤️

🐾❤️ Let's meet the Brother Bear puppies one at a time!

These babies are six weeks old now, and this is such a fun stage.

Their coloring is becoming easier to see. I'm getting a better idea of which puppies I think will be long or short coated. But even better...

Their little personalities are starting to come out.

So today I made a short individual video of each puppy and put them all together so you can meet everybody up close.

I'll tell you a little about each puppy's coloring and coat, along with some of the things I've noticed about them so far.

Who's super sweet?

Who seems to love an adventure?

Who has those little personality traits that are already making them stand out?

You'll get to meet them all. ❤️

They're still babies, of course, so personalities will continue developing as they grow. And when I talk about whether I think a puppy will be long or short coated, that's my prediction based on what I'm seeing at this age.

But after watching these puppies grow together for six weeks, it's so much fun to see them beginning to become eight very individual little German Shepherds.

🐾 Apparently all you need to entertain German Shepherd puppies is an upside-down swimming pool. 😂

Today's addition to the Brother Bear puppies' play area was definitely a HIT.

I put one of my cots on the ground and placed their plastic kiddie pool upside down on top of it. The cot underneath supported the pool so it couldn't collapse underneath the puppies.

Then I let them investigate.

Well...

Investigating quickly turned into climbing. 😂

They were on it, off it, licking it, trying to chew it, walking across it and generally having a wonderful time with this strange new thing that suddenly appeared in their play area.

But there was another reason I loved watching them with it.

The plastic makes noise when they walk across it. It moves a little underneath their feet. It feels completely different from the grass.

None of that seemed to bother these guys one bit. ❤️

To them, it was simply something new to explore.

That's one of the things I love about raising puppies this way. New experiences don't have to be complicated. Sometimes an ordinary object becomes an opportunity for puppies to experience a different surface, sound, movement or sensation while they're simply playing and having fun.

And apparently an upside-down pool makes a pretty fantastic German Shepherd puppy playground. 😂

These Brother Bear babies are growing so quickly, and their individual personalities are showing more every day.

❤️ The Puppies Finally Got to Meet Attina!❤️

Attina has been VERY interested in these puppies practically since the day they were born.

I've allowed her to see and interact with them through a gate, but until today, she had never actually been inside their play area with them.

Today was the day!

And apparently the puppies thought Attina was pretty exciting. 😂

They gathered around her, investigated her, followed her around and, of course, had to answer one extremely important puppy question:

Does this dog have milk like Mommy did?

Nope. 😂

They figured that one out pretty quickly!

Attina seemed to really enjoy finally getting to be with them. She moved around the play area, checked everything out, and interacted with the puppies while they happily followed along.

I also wanted Attina to have a way to tell me when she'd had enough.

Toward the end, she came over to the gate. I opened it and gave her the opportunity to leave. She actually seemed a little hesitant to go - almost as though she wanted a quick break but wasn't quite finished with her new little friends. ❤️

I still gave her that time away.

I think that's an important part of introductions like this. The puppies are learning, but Attina's comfort matters too. I want everyone involved to have a positive experience and the opportunity for space when they need it.

For their very first up-close visit together, it went wonderfully.

And judging from Attina's interest in these babies over the past several weeks, I don't think this will be their last visit together! ❤️

🐾⚖️ Wednesday Weigh-In - and we have a new biggest puppy! ⚖️🐾

Another week has gone by, which means it was time to get all of the Brother Bear puppies back on the scale.

Everybody gained weight this week! ❤️

But there was a little change in the rankings...

Rutt is our biggest puppy this week! 🎉

I love doing these weekly weigh-ins because it's such an easy way to look back and see just how much these babies have changed.

Of course, the scale only tells a tiny part of their story.

At this age, I'm also watching their personalities develop. They're exploring new things, playing harder, learning from their experiences, interacting with me and the other dogs, and becoming more individual every day.

Those tiny newborn puppies aren't so tiny anymore. 🥹❤️

We're also getting closer to the point when they'll eventually leave me and begin their lives with their future families.

One Brother Bear puppy has been reserved so far, and I'm continuing to get to know each puppy as they grow.
