Before ➡ After

Yemin came to DEFHR in July 2024 as a probate/neglect case. After being a part of a court case for over a year, DEFHR received custody and Yemin has since started in our training program. Yemin is doing fantastic in her new career and will be available for adoption in the coming weeks!

In May 2026, DEFHR assisted Howard County Animal Control with bringing in two feral BLM mustangs that were abandoned. Edgar (pictured) went to off-site training with Face Up Training & C**t Starting who did a great job introducing Edgar to the life of domestication! While in training, Edgar met Face Up working student Emma and these two quickly connected and became great partners. It was clear that they were meant to be together, and they recently made the adoption official! Congratulations on your adoption, Edgar and Emma! ❤ We wish you many happy years together!

DEFHR's Kudos and Quinoa headed to offsite training with Equine Welfare Society. We cannot wait to see how they develop and thrive under EWS's training and care! These two will be available for adoption in the coming months. 🐴

Our farm is open year-round for drop-in tours, and we’d love to share our passion for rescuing and rehabilitating horses with you in person! 🐴

Drop-in tours at Days End Farm Horse Rescue are perfect for groups of up to 10 and typically last 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the day’s activities.

Simply stop by the farm any day between 9am and 4pm and locate a staff member to start your tour.

Every week we receive messages from owners asking for assistance with their horses due to financial hardship, life changes, or other circumstances. We are delighted that through our Owner 2 Owner Program (O2O) there are ways we can help! ❤

Our Owner 2 Owner Program is an equine safety net initiative aimed at providing responsible alternatives for horses needing homes and assistance by helping owners to identify and select the best transition options for their horses. 🐴
Through O2O, our program provides individualized services for these horses, including equine assessment and consultation, marketing assistance, end-of-life support, owner education and safety net resources, and facilitating the transition of horses into new homes. We work with a wide network of industry organizations, professionals and private owners to source the best options – from retraining to retirement –because no horse should ever be at risk of neglect or entering the slaughter pipeline.

🐴 Make an impact in the life of a rescue horse by signing up for our Equidopt Grooming Program!

Participants in this program our given the opportunity to “Equidopt” one of our horses. Grooming sponsors play a major role in their horse’s life through weekly grooming sessions with an assigned horse. This unique program allows you the time and place to build a special bond with a rescue horse. In addition, all “Equidopt” grooming sponsors will receive a DEFHR-branded grooming kit, seasonal gifts, and opportunities to participate in quarterly ground clinics and an annual event at DEFHR. ❤

Quizno arrived at DEFHR as a neglect case seized by Frederick County Animal Control in 2018. He was a body condition score of a 2.5 out of 9 on the Henneke Body Condition Scale, infested with lice and internal parasites. Look at his amazing transformation! After making a full recovery, we are happy to share that Quizno was adopted to his forever loving home! 🏠
