Our community has recently had multiple animals test positive for rabies. This is an important reminder for all pet owners to take precautions and make sure your pets are protected.
💉 Keep your pets’ rabies vaccinations up to date. Rabies vaccination is required by law and is one of the most important ways to protect your pets, your family, and our community.
🦝 If your pet gets into a fight or has contact with wildlife:
-Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible, even if you don’t see an obvious wound.
-Have your pet examined for bites, scratches, or other injuries.
-Your veterinarian can determine whether a rabies vaccine booster or additional precautions are needed.
-Keep your pet under close observation and follow your veterinarian’s recommendations.
❗️ Signs of Rabies
Rabies can affect animals in different ways. Signs may include:
-Sudden or unusual changes in behavior
-Unexplained aggression or irritability
-Unusual friendliness or lack of fear
-Excessive drooling or foaming at the mouth
-Difficulty swallowing
-Trouble walking, weakness, or paralysis
-Seizures
-Disorientation or confusion
-Unusual vocalizations
⚠️ If you see a wild animal acting strangely, do not approach, touch, feed, or attempt to capture it. Keep children and pets away from the animal and contact your local animal control or health department for guidance.
📞 If you or your pet has been exposed to a potentially rabid animal, contact your veterinarian and/or local public health authorities promptly.
