Last week we had our first outing to Double C Farm and it was a blast! Some seasoned ponies came for a refresher and several young horses went for their first time. We love going here each year not just as a test, but as a quiet, easy oppertunity for team building for our horses and riders in a setting that offers unique obstacle oppertunities. We always begin in hand and make sure everyone is on the same page, starting with very simple tasks and then advancing in ask, and then we go for the same undersaddle. As we discover limits we back off, rework the conversation even all the way back to the ground then we try again. No one has to do everything, but we make the most of discovimg where there are limits and finding ways to navigate through them.
We tend to pair experienced horses with young ones to help show them the way and support them emotionally, which usually sets a good tone for the outing.
Big Lincoln was the super star of this visit, quelty and thoughtfully working his way through many things he's never encountered before. His is young and big, but has proven to be extremely willing and sensible about stuff he's not sure of. Very happy with how he did excited about his future π
Will be back with another round next week!!
