🥀 REMEMBERING NYPD K-9 APOLLO 💙🇺🇸
The First Police K-9 to Respond at Ground Zero

Apollo was already a veteran.

A German Shepherd who graduated from the NYPD Canine Special Operations Division at just two years old, he had spent years serving alongside his handler, NYPD Officer Peter Davis.

By September 11, 2001, Apollo was nine years old — an age when many police dogs would already have retired.

But when America was attacked, Apollo answered one of the greatest calls of his career.

Just 15 minutes after the South Tower collapsed, Apollo and Officer Davis arrived at Ground Zero — becoming the first police K-9 search and rescue team to respond.

To reach the rubble, they pushed through water almost waist-deep.

Then Apollo disappeared into a hole.

A fireball erupted.

Apollo came running back out on fire.

Peter brushed the burning embers from his partner's coat.

And Apollo?

He went straight back to searching.

For weeks, the pair worked punishing shifts of up to 18 hours a day.

Apollo's thick coat was singed by red-hot debris. His paws became cracked and bruised from navigating jagged concrete. Falling wreckage threatened him as he climbed across an unstable landscape few dogs had ever encountered.

Still he searched.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Apollo was searching for the living.

Eventually, Peter faced the heartbreaking reality that his partner wasn't going to find another survivor.

But Apollo didn't understand that the mission had changed.

He still wanted to search.

Peter ultimately had to physically pull him away from the debris.

Those who witnessed Apollo working at the World Trade Center would later describe it as the defining moment of an already remarkable career.

Apollo lived until the age of 14.

But his place in history had been secured years earlier.

An old police dog.

Fifteen minutes after the collapse.

Burned. Bruised. Exhausted.

And still trying to find somebody alive.

That was Apollo.

🐾 Wundersee German Shepherds – Two Exceptional 7-Month-Old Male Puppies Available 🐾

After a lot of consideration, I have decided to make two very nice 7-month-old German Shepherd males available from my last Wundersee litter V Freya v. Drache Feld x Gladiator Feetback.

These are puppies that I originally kept for myself, so this was not an easy decision. They are lovely young dogs with excellent potential, but I have decided that the right homes where they can receive plenty of individual attention and continue their training would be best for them.

Both are:

• Crate trained and housebroken
• Started in basic obedience
• Happy, intelligent young dogs with very nice temperaments
• Well started, but still youngsters who will need continued training, socialization and exposure as they mature

Their parents are titled and breed surveyed, with SV-normal hips and elbows. They come from the West German show lines that we have bred at Wundersee for many years, with an emphasis on sound temperament, working ability and correct structure.

I am a veterinarian and longtime German Shepherd breeder, and finding the right match for each dog is extremely important to me. I would love to see these two go to homes where they will be part of the family and continue to develop into the wonderful adults I believe they can be.

Serious inquiries are welcome. Please send me a private message and tell me a little about yourself, your home, and your experience with German Shepherds.
